New casting rumors are circulating around Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman: Part II. The movie is still scheduled for release in October 2027, but speculation about its characters is already building quickly.

The sequel follows 2022’s The Batman, where Robert Pattinson’s version of Bruce Wayne faced off against Paul Dano’s Riddler while also encountering a younger version of the Penguin, played by Colin Farrell. Farrell recently commented on his return for the sequel, saying he has a much smaller role this time. He mentioned that he only appears in about two scenes, which immediately fueled discussion about which new villains might take center stage in the story.

One of the biggest early rumors involved Sebastian Stan. Initial reports suggested that Stan could be playing Harvey Dent, the Gotham City district attorney who eventually becomes the villain Two-Face. That idea quickly gained traction online because Dent is one of Batman’s most well-known antagonists and has previously been played by Tommy Lee Jones and Aaron Eckhart in earlier films.

However, newer reporting has complicated that assumption. According to Jeff Sneider’s recent update, Stan may actually be playing a different character entirely. Instead of Harvey Dent, he is now rumored to take on the role of Victor Zsasz, a violent serial killer from the Batman universe. At the same time, the report suggests that Brian Tyree Henry could be the actor portraying Harvey Dent, who would still eventually become Two-Face.

These claims have not been confirmed by Warner Bros. or the filmmakers, and they should be treated as speculation for now. Still, the shifting rumors have already sparked discussion among fans, especially those who expected Stan to take on the Two-Face storyline.

Victor Zsasz is a particularly dark character in Batman lore. According to descriptions from DC’s character database, he is a psychopathic killer who marks his own body with tally marks for every victim. If the rumors are accurate, his inclusion would suggest a much darker and more grounded tone for the sequel, which aligns with earlier comments from Colin Farrell. In a recent interview, Farrell described the script as “a really kind of dark and at times terrifying piece.”

The first film already leaned heavily into crime thriller territory, focusing less on traditional superhero action and more on detective work, corruption, and psychological tension. The Riddler served as the main antagonist, while the Penguin played a supporting but memorable role in Gotham’s criminal underworld. With Farrell now indicating a reduced presence, it seems likely that the sequel will introduce new figures to fill the power vacuum left behind.

That has led many to believe Harvey Dent will still play a major role in the story, regardless of who is cast, but Sneider mentioned that Brian Tyree Henry is in the running. Dent’s transformation into Two-Face has long been one of the most important arcs in Batman mythology, and it would fit naturally into the grounded world Reeves has built so far.

At this stage, however, none of the casting reports are officially confirmed. The studio has remained silent on character details, and much of the current discussion is based on insider claims and entertainment reporting rather than formal announcements.

Even so, anticipation for The Batman: Part II continues to grow as more details slowly emerge. With filming still ahead and release more than a year away, the film remains one of the most closely watched upcoming superhero projects, and any casting change or rumor is likely to keep generating attention until official confirmations arrive.
