TV shows with controversial endings often spark strong reactions from audiences. Sometimes fans get very attached to characters, and when stories take a dark turn, the response online can become extreme. It’s not unusual for actors to talk about how intense that feedback can get, especially in long-running franchises.

Social media has also made it easier for viewers to directly reach cast members. While this can create a closer connection between fans and actors, it can also lead to harsh criticism becoming very personal, especially when characters are disliked for story reasons rather than real actions.

In a recent interview reported by The Direct, actor Jack Alcott spoke about the backlash he received for his role as Harrison Morgan in Dexter: New Blood. He explained that the reaction went far beyond normal criticism after the show aired.

Alcott said he even received threats for an extended period after the series came out. “Yeah. I mean, I got death threats for, like—Jesus, a solid year after ‘New Blood.’ And there were a couple that were concerning, but most of them were, ‘I’m gonna Dexter you on a Dexter table.’ A lot of that. And that was upsetting initially, but the more I got it, the more I was reminded that… you don’t need everybody to like you,” he said.

The actor added that, as a performer, his goal is to make people feel something, even if it’s uncomfortable. “I think, as an actor, as a storyteller, you want to just affect your audience. And so, if you did want to kill me, then I think I did my job. I made you feel some type of way about it. So, I started taking that as a compliment. I definitely prefer this, the character being liked to the character being despised,” he explained.

In Dexter: New Blood, Alcott played Harrison Morgan, the son of Dexter Morgan. The series followed their complicated relationship years after Dexter faked his death and left his old life behind. The story focused heavily on Harrison’s struggles and emotional state, which led to mixed reactions from viewers.

According to the interview, the reaction to his character was especially strong after the show’s ending, where Harrison makes a major decision involving his father. Some viewers felt the character was written inconsistently, which added to the online backlash directed at the actor himself.

Despite that, Alcott said things have improved with his return in Dexter: Resurrection. He noted that the newer series shows a different side of Harrison and has been better received by fans.

He also shared that he is excited to continue filming the story. “There’s gonna be a lot going on,” he said when asked about what’s coming next in the series, hinting at more developments for both characters in the upcoming episodes.
