‘VisionQuest’ Success Has Marvel Studios Rethinking What Comes Next for Its Characters
Marvel Studios’ television experiment has always been a story of big swings and uneven landings. The studio released its first TV series, ‘WandaVision,’ in 2021, and the Emmy-winning miniseries set a high bar for its fledgling TV division. Five years later, the franchise is closing out that era in a very different place.
The trilogy’s final chapter arrived with plenty of curiosity attached. ‘VisionQuest’ premiered on Disney+ on Oct. 13, 2026, with its first two episodes, and its eight-episode run concludes on Nov. 10. Paul Bettany returns as Vision alongside James Spader, with Ruaridh Mollica and Todd Stashwick also starring.
Now, with the finale just days away, a new report suggests the show is landing the way Marvel hoped. Marvel Updates shared on X that ‘VisionQuest’ is seen as a success at Marvel Studios, and that there are currently talks about how some of its characters could continue in the MCU. The post credits TheWrap, which published the information in a broader analysis of Marvel Television’s future.
That context matters. TheWrap notes that after ‘VisionQuest’ and the third season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ which was recently announced as its final season, Marvel’s live-action television offerings will go on hiatus until after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ Seen that way, the studio’s interest in keeping these characters alive reads like a vote of confidence at a moment when the TV slate is about to go quiet.
Critics have been warm on the show, which helps explain the optimism. TheWrap’s Hunter Ingram described ‘VisionQuest’ as one of the more humane and hopeful things Marvel has produced. TheWrap’s analysis also groups it with ‘Agatha All Along’ and ‘Wonder Man’ as shows met with critical acclaim that earned back some goodwill after a string of lackluster receptions.
Not everyone has been so sure about where it all leads. The Ringer argued the series might have landed better had it arrived on the heels of ‘WandaVision’ rather than during a strange transitional phase for the studio. That timing question has hung over the show’s place in the larger MCU picture.
The biggest open question has always been what comes next for the cast of characters. ComicBook.com noted that, as of its reporting, there were no indications that Vision or any characters associated with him would appear in a future MCU project. Screen Rant’s Ben Gibbons voiced a similar concern, saying he was anxiously waiting to see what is next for these characters and where they could show up in the MCU.
Those fears may be easing, at least a little. An Italian report summarizing TheWrap’s piece stresses that no returns are official yet, and that the studio’s interest in these characters is not the same thing as a calendar of approved projects. In other words, the conversation is happening, but nothing is locked in.
There is also a creative argument for keeping the door open. TheWrap’s analysis points to ‘Wonder Man’ as an example of a show that features established characters while remaining accessible to new viewers. A similar approach could give the ‘VisionQuest’ ensemble a path forward without requiring audiences to rewatch years of Disney+ homework.
For now, fans will have to wait for the finale to see how Marvel chooses to wrap things up, and whether the ending leaves room for more. If the studio does move forward with any of these characters, the timing could make for an interesting handoff. Marvel’s TV pause gives it a chance to reset, and ‘VisionQuest’ may be the show that tells it what is worth bringing along.
