The future of Daredevil: Born Again may include a much bigger role for Luke Cage, according to showrunner Dario Scardapane.

Scardapane recently spoke about where the story is heading after the Season 2 finale. The focus quickly turned to Luke Cage and how he fits into the next chapter of the series.

He explained that Luke Cage is not being treated as a side cameo anymore. Instead, the story is already building toward something bigger involving him, Jessica Jones, and their family life.

Scardapane said, “The relationship between Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, we start that picture of those three people, that family, at the end of episode 8 in this season. The questions and the story that starts there play into season 3, absolutely.”

This confirms that Luke Cage is directly tied to the direction of Season 3, especially through his connection with Jessica Jones and their daughter. The show is clearly planning to expand that family storyline instead of keeping it in the background.

The Season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again already set up a major shift in the street-level Marvel world. Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, publicly revealed that he is Daredevil and ended up in prison after the chaos in New York City. That ending also helped set up future storylines involving multiple heroes.

The finale also brought back Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter, and Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, reuniting them on screen for the first time in years. Their return was a big moment for fans of the older Marvel Netflix shows.

Scardapane explained that the creative team is building the next season by combining ideas from different comic book runs, but Luke Cage’s role is clearly tied to his personal life and family rather than just superhero action.

The story also leaves room for more Defenders characters to return. The ending already hinted at a wider street-level universe growing again inside Marvel’s Disney+ shows.

Scardapane also said he is watching Season 3 being filmed while discussing these plans, showing that development is already moving forward behind the scenes.

For now, Marvel has not officially confirmed how large Luke Cage’s role will be, but the showrunner’s comments make it clear that Season 3 will not ignore him. Instead, his relationship with Jessica Jones and their family looks like a key part of what comes next.

In simple terms, Luke Cage is no longer just a guest appearance possibility. The story is slowly building him back into a major piece of the Daredevil world.

This is a smart move. Luke Cage and Jessica Jones have always felt like characters with unfinished stories, especially after the Netflix era ended. Bringing them back in a real way could make the Marvel street-level shows feel more connected again. What do you think about Luke Cage getting a bigger role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3?
