Pedro Pascal has been remarkably candid about what drew him to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

The actor, who reprises his role as Reed Richards after debuting in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, said the most exciting aspect of the experience was simply being in the room with so many legendary performers who helped define the superhero genre.

“The thing that excited me the most was to be in the company of so many iconic actors that authored these iconic roles in that chapter of superhero movies and storytelling.”

Pascal and Robert Downey Jr. grew particularly close during production, with Downey hosting what he called “homework days” at his home for cast members to workshop scenes together.

Pascal was asked about what exactly happens during those sessions and gave a response that was as charming as it was cryptic, simply saying, “Very good question.” Downey, for his part, publicly praised Pascal in a Vanity Fair cover story, saying his rise to stardom “reaffirms my faith in our industry.”

Pascal completed his scenes on ‘Doomsday’ in the summer of 2025, becoming one of the earlier members of the enormous ensemble to wrap, though the production itself continues to be a balancing act across multiple superhero rosters. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ began principal photography in April 2025 at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom.

In terms of what Reed Richards’ role actually means for the larger story, Pascal has been careful to manage expectations. Speaking to CBR, he addressed earlier suggestions that Mister Fantastic would be leading the Avengers, saying that comments from the ‘First Steps’ director had been “taken out of context,” and clarifying that what is happening in the film is distinct from that particular comic book storyline.

The film’s staggering ensemble includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Florence Pugh, Anthony Mackie, and a number of characters from former Fox properties, including original X-Men cast members. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that the official cast announcement only covers part of the lineup, meaning further surprises are still to come ahead of the December release.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in theaters on December 18, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo from a script by Stephen McFeely. For Pascal, stepping into that world clearly meant something beyond the role itself, and his candid enthusiasm about sharing the screen with actors who defined a genre is the kind of quote that reminds fans why these films still carry cultural weight.
