Outside of Star Wars, Pennington had a long and respected career in theatre, television, film, writing, and directing. His IMDb profile includes projects such as The Iron Lady and Hamlet, but much of his work focused on Shakespeare and stage performances.

Pennington also co-founded the English Shakespeare Company alongside director Michael Bogdanov in 1986. Information shared on his official website highlights decades of work across theatre productions, radio, books, and classical performances.

For many people in the theatre world, Pennington was known first as a major Shakespeare actor and director. But for Star Wars fans, he will always be remembered as the nervous Imperial commander trying to survive impossible conversations with Darth Vader.

Fans online continue sharing scenes, quotes, and memories from Return of the Jedi as they remember the actor and his contribution to the Star Wars universe.
