Netflix Drops Shocking True Crime Documentary That Has Viewers Stunned
Netflix has released a new true crime documentary titled The Crash, and it is already drawing strong reactions from viewers. The film is being described by many as one of the most intense and emotionally difficult true crime releases the platform has put out in recent years.
The documentary is now available on Netflix and focuses on a real case from Strongsville, Ohio, in the United States. It follows a tragic car crash involving three young people, where a vehicle was driven at nearly 100 miles per hour into a building. Two of the young men died in the crash, while one person survived.
At the center of the case is Mackenzie Shirilla, who was 17 years old at the time. According to the documentary, she was driving her boyfriend Dominic and his friend Davion home after a night out.
What initially looked like a terrible accident later became the focus of a deeper investigation as questions emerged about what really happened in the moments leading up to the crash.
The film explores the relationships between those involved, along with conflicting accounts of the night in question. It also examines the evidence that led investigators to reconsider whether the incident was accidental or intentional.
The documentary runs for 94 minutes and uses police footage, surveillance video, and interviews with people connected to the case. Some of the most disturbing material includes dashcam and security camera recordings that show the speed of the vehicle before the impact, along with emergency response footage arriving at the scene.
Family members of the victims are featured in the film, along with members of Mackenzie Shirilla’s own family. The documentary also includes a prison interview with Shirilla, which has been highlighted in early reports as one of the most emotionally difficult parts of the film.
The case ultimately led to Shirilla being convicted on multiple felony charges. The film presents different perspectives on the event, allowing viewers to see how the investigation unfolded and how the story developed in court.
Critics and viewers have described the documentary in different ways, with some calling it deeply unsettling and others praising its strong storytelling and production quality. One early response described it as a “deeply disturbing documentary that stays with you even after it ends.”
Another early review noted that it is a “well-produced true crime film that keeps viewers engaged from start to finish.”
The documentary is directed by Gareth Johnson and features Rosie Graham among the listed contributors.
