Eric Kripke Addresses ‘Gen V’ Crossover in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 After Fan Backlash
Eric Kripke has spoken about the GEN V crossover in The Boys Season 5 after being asked whether he would have handled it differently if he had known the spin-off would not continue.
His comments come after viewers saw a brief return of Marie Moreau and Jordan Li in one of the final episodes of the season.
Kripke explained that the main focus was still the ending of The Boys itself, and the team wanted to give the GEN V characters at least a short moment within the larger story. He also admitted that, in hindsight, there may have been room to set things up with more closure or clearer direction for the characters’ future.
“This is The Boys finale, and they deserve to have their story told,” Kripke said. He added that they considered ways to better prepare viewers for what happens next with the spin-off characters.
“But maybe there would have been a way through dialogue or something to hint at something with a little more finality. To prepare everyone, we leave the Gen V kids heading off into more story… Even in Episode 7, we’re hinting at some really interesting notions of issues and problems that Marie still has to deal with because we were hoping we could.” He said.
The crossover itself appears briefly in the episode, where Marie Moreau and Jordan Li return in a short scene. They speak with Starlight and Mother’s Milk while giving an update about events involving “Oh Father” and Vought Studios. The interaction is quickly cut short when Starlight tells them to leave and go into hiding, making it clear she does not believe they are ready to help in the fight against Homelander.
The scene has become a talking point among fans because it feels like a limited use of characters who were previously expected to play a larger role. In GEN V, Marie was introduced as one of the most powerful new supes, with blood manipulation abilities that set her apart. Some viewers had speculated that she could become a key figure in the final battle against Homelander in the main series.
That idea is indirectly challenged during the episode itself. Mother’s Milk questions her reputation, saying, “I heard that you’re like the chosen one and have Homelander-level strength or some shit,” to which Marie replies, “Well, reports of my awesomeness have been greatly exaggerated.”

Viewer reactions online have been mixed. According to social media discussions and fan commentary, some felt disappointed that the crossover was so short after earlier expectations of a bigger role. Others felt the moment reflected the unpredictable nature of the story and even saw it as intentional commentary on how quickly storylines can change.
With only one episode left in The Boys Season 5, attention is now on how the main story will conclude. It remains unclear whether any GEN V characters will return in the finale or appear in future projects, though Kripke has suggested their stories may not be fully finished yet.
