The showrunner of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Ira Parker, has shared new details about what to expect in season 2, including new characters and a major shift in tone for Ser Duncan the Tall’s story.

The HBO series, which is based on George R. R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, continues the journey of Ser Duncan the Tall (played by Peter Claffey) and his young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), who is now revealed to be Prince Aegon V Targaryen. Season 2 will adapt The Sworn Sword and bring new political complications into their path.

Parker spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming season while production faced delays caused by heavy rainfall and flooding in the Canary Islands, where the show is filmed. He explained that the weather disruption has slowed filming and forced the team to adjust plans on the ground.

Despite the setback, Parker also highlighted the arrival of new characters who will shape the next chapter of the story. Lucy Boynton joins the cast as Lady Rohanne Webber, a powerful noblewoman known as the “Red Widow,” while Babou Ceesay will play Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield. Peter Mullan also joins as Ser Eustace Osgrey, the head of House Osgrey.

Parker described Lady Rohanne as a key force in the new season, especially in how she affects Dunk’s journey. He said, “She has a way of making Dunk uncomfortable, which is very good for us. Some of our other characters on season 1 did that very well, and that’s what we need from the Red Widow for a variety of reasons.”

He also explained the broader direction of the story, saying, “This is essentially Dunk wading into politics.” According to Parker, Dunk is skilled in combat and survival but far less prepared for the social and political games of the nobility, which will now become central to the story.

The showrunner praised Lucy Boynton’s performance during casting, noting that she brought a strong and unique presence to the role. He also spoke positively about Babou Ceesay’s casting, saying the character of Ser Bennis will serve as an important foil to both Dunk and Egg.

Even with production delays, Parker said the team is still aiming to move forward and deliver the next season as planned. He added that while the crew waits out the weather, they are adjusting schedules and hoping for better conditions to continue filming.

Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expected to continue expanding the world of Westeros with new alliances, conflicts, and political tensions, with Dunk now stepping into a far more dangerous game than simple swordwork.
