Curry Barker Already Wrapped New Horror Film Starring Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard & Violet McGraw After ‘Obsession’ Success
Curry Barker is moving fast in Hollywood, and his next step is already locked in. The director, who is just 26 years old, recently spoke about his growing career in an interview with Variety.
His breakout moment came with the horror project “Milk & Serial,” a low-budget film that he released for free on YouTube. That project got attention and helped him move into bigger productions. His first theatrical release is “Obsession,” which is now arriving through Focus Features.
But even before “Obsession” fully reaches audiences, Barker has already finished shooting his next horror film.
This upcoming movie is called “Anything but Ghosts,” and it is already completed. Barker confirmed in the Variety interview that filming wrapped recently, and he has been working non-stop between projects. He described the pace of his work as intense, saying it has been months without a break.
The new film marks a major step up for him in scale. It features a well-known cast, including Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Violet McGraw. Barker is not just directing this time, he is also acting in it.
He explained that the story is still grounded in a real-world setting, even though it deals with ghosts. The idea is not about fantasy horror alone, but about how normal people would react if something impossible became real. He said the focus is on character behavior and emotional reaction, not just scares.
Barker said, “It should feel like, what would you do if you discovered ghosts were real? How would you react, and how would that emotionally affect you? These guys are con artists, and they don’t even believe in ghosts. They call themselves ghost hunters, but they’re just glorified magicians.”

He also said this film is very different from “Obsession,” even though both exist in the same grounded style. For him, the goal is to keep changing tone while still staying in believable worlds.
The director also spoke about working with bigger actors for the first time. He admitted he was nervous at the beginning because he had strong ideas about how scenes should play out. But that changed once production started.
He said, “They want to be directed and you’re going to let them down if you don’t give them direction.” He added that both Aaron Paul and Bryce Dallas Howard were easy to work with and very open to notes on set.
Barker also confirmed that he is already developing another major project after “Anything but Ghosts.” He has been linked to a new version of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” under A24, which he described as a grounded and brutal take on the material. He said the goal is to make audiences care about the characters before anything happens to them.
He explained, “It’s gonna be grounded, brutal, raw. It should be very, very uncomfortable.”
With “Obsession” in theaters and “Anything but Ghosts” already finished, Barker’s career is moving quickly from online creator to mainstream horror filmmaker. His next few projects suggest he is aiming to stay in horror, but with a strong focus on character-driven stories rather than simple shock or spectacle.
