The Scooby-Doo franchise is heading in a new direction with an upcoming anime-style series that takes the classic mystery team into an entirely different setting. The new show, titled Yokoso Scooby-Doo, is a Tubi Original and will be set in Japan. According to information shared by Tubi and Warner Bros. Animation, the series will also bring back two familiar voices that longtime fans will instantly recognize.

Frank Welker will once again voice Scooby-Doo, while Matthew Lillard returns as Shaggy. Both actors have been closely tied to the franchise for years, and their involvement continues a long history with the iconic characters.

In this new version of the story, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy travel to Japan for what is supposed to be a fun food-focused adventure. However, things quickly go wrong when they accidentally release hundreds of mythical monsters across the country. What starts as a light trip turns into a full mystery mission as chaos spreads and strange creatures begin appearing everywhere.

To help solve the situation, they are joined by a group of new characters. Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, becomes part of the team, along with a magical girl named Yume and a tech expert called Takumi. Together, the group works to track down the monsters and bring order back while dealing with a mix of comedy, action, and mystery.

Tubi’s Chief Content Officer Adam Lewinson spoke about the project in a statement shared by the platform. He said, “Scooby-Doo is one of the most beloved franchises in entertainment, and Yokoso Scooby-Doo lets us reinvent it in a way fans haven’t seen before. By bringing Scooby and Shaggy into a bold anime world set in Japan, we’re connecting with global fandoms and delivering the kind of fun, chaotic mystery that travels across generations. As we grow our animation slate, this is exactly our brand of fan-first storytelling—familiar, surprising, and unmistakably Tubi.”

The series is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation, with additional production support from OLM in Japan. It will be directed by Itsuro Kawasaki, while Francisco Paredes is serving as co-producer.

Frank Welker has been part of the Scooby-Doo world since its earliest days, first working on the franchise in 1969 and later becoming the voice of Scooby-Doo in the early 2000s. Matthew Lillard joined the franchise in the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo film, where he played Shaggy, and he has continued voicing the character in later projects.

With both actors returning, Yokoso Scooby-Doo is shaping up to be a fresh but familiar take on the classic series, mixing traditional mystery-solving with anime-style storytelling and a new global setting in Japan.
