‘Jack Ryan: Ghost War’ Rotten Tomatoes Score Drops as Early Reviews Come In
Jack Ryan: Ghost War, also known as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, is a new political action thriller. The film continues the story from the Amazon series Jack Ryan and brings back John Krasinski as the lead character. The movie is directed by Andrew Bernstein and is based on a story by Krasinski and Noah Oppenheim. According to production details, it is part of the larger Ryanverse created by Tom Clancy and is distributed by Amazon MGM Studios.
The film follows Jack Ryan, a former Marine turned CIA field operative, as he gets pulled into another high-stakes global mission. He works alongside familiar allies including James Greer, played by Wendell Pierce, and Mike November, played by Michael Kelly. The cast also includes Sienna Miller as Emma Marlow, along with several new characters introduced in this chapter of the franchise.
Early reactions from critics have been mixed, and the film currently holds a 36% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on early reviews. According to critics cited by outlets such as The Times (UK), Firstpost, Collider, and Screen Rant, the movie has strong action scenes but struggles with originality and deeper storytelling.
One review from The Times (UK) described the film as, “generic, personality-free and very streaming.” Another review from Firstpost said it is “polished, watchable and occasionally thrilling, but also painfully safe.”
Other critics had similar opinions. Hindustan Times noted that the film “trades the franchise’s mind for muscle,” while The Age said it feels like “an awkward translation of the series.” MovieWeb also pointed out that it may mainly appeal to existing fans but suggested the franchise has little new ground left to explore.

Some reviews were slightly more positive. Screen Rant called it a solid entry in the franchise that remains entertaining, while The AU Review said it works as an engaging continuation that respects its roots even if it does not stand out strongly.
Overall, critics agree that Ghost War delivers action and familiar characters but struggles to bring fresh ideas to the long-running franchise, leading to its mixed early reception on Rotten Tomatoes.
