The daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, made headlines after she appeared to drop her father’s surname during her college graduation.

The information comes from media reports covering her graduation at Spelman College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology on Sunday, May 17. She is 21 years old and the oldest daughter in the family.

At the ceremony, her full name was listed in the program as Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt. But when she walked across the stage to collect her diploma, she was introduced as Zahara Marley Jolie instead.

Zahara is one of six children shared by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, along with Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.

This is not the first time her name has appeared without “Pitt.” Earlier reports also noted similar cases in public events. At a Pearls of Purpose Foundation event in April, she was also referred to only as Zahara Jolie. At that event, she gave a speech where she spoke warmly about her mother. She said, “unique, almost kindred, relationship” when describing their bond, and also said she was “grateful to have had a role model to show me what it looks like to be a decent human being”.

Other children in the family have also moved away from using the Pitt surname in public or legal settings. Shiloh legally changed her name in 2024 after turning 18. Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie in a theatre production Playbill for The Outsiders, where she worked behind the scenes. Maddox was also listed as Maddox Jolie in film credits for Couture.
