A first look featurette has been released for The Death of Robin Hood, giving audiences an early glimpse at the dark new take on the classic legend. The film is directed by Michael Sarnoski and stars Hugh Jackman in the lead role as an older version of Robin Hood.

The movie is a thriller that reimagines the well-known Robin Hood story in a much darker and more emotional way.

In this version, Robin Hood is no longer the heroic outlaw seen in traditional stories. Instead, he is an aging man dealing with the consequences of a violent past. The story follows him after he is badly injured and placed under the care of a mysterious woman. While recovering, he is forced to face what he has done in his life of crime and killing.

The cast includes Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe. Skarsgård plays Little John, who is traditionally known as one of Robin Hood’s closest companions. Faith Delaney also appears as Little Margaret.

The film was first announced in May 2024, when it was confirmed that Michael Sarnoski would write and direct the project, with Jackman and Comer attached as the main stars. Soon after, A24 picked up the U.S. distribution rights after a competitive deal at the Marché du Film. Additional casting, including Skarsgård, Bartlett, and Jupe, was confirmed in early 2025.

Filming took place in Northern Ireland, with production locations including Belfast Harbour Studios and areas like Silent Valley, Glenarm, and Murlough Bay. The movie was shot on 35mm film and completed filming by late March 2025.

According to production updates, the film is scheduled to premiere at the 73rd Sydney Film Festival on June 12. After that, it will be released in the United States by A24 on June 19.

The release of the first look featurette is the first official chance for viewers to see the tone and style of the film before its festival debut.
