Jensen Ackles has finally explained the moment that made him walk off set while filming the final season of The Boys. The actor shared the story again at a recent fan convention, nearly a year after first teasing the incident.

The discussion first started back in 2025 at Creation Entertainment’s “The Road So Far, The Road Ahead” event in Philadelphia. Ackles, along with Misha Collins, spoke about their experience working on the upcoming fifth season. Fans were told that the final season would include some of the most shocking moments in the series so far.

During that earlier event, Ackles described a scene that caught him completely off guard. He said he walked into it without knowing exactly what was going to happen, even though the scene had been rehearsed in a different form.

“I walk into the scene. Soldier Boy. And I turn the corner and I go, ‘Oh my god.’ That wasn’t my line,” Ackles said at the time. “And I was supposed to stay there. But I hadn’t seen what was going on.”

He explained that things changed once filming started. Even though he had prepared for the scene in rehearsals, the final version was very different when the cameras rolled. The shock of it made him step away for a moment.

“We’d blocked it out. We rehearsed it. Things changed when the camera was rolling,” he said. “And I walked in and it was, ‘Dear God,’ and I just walked back out.”

Ackles also remembered how the crew reacted when he left the scene unexpectedly. He said the moment caused confusion on set, but he quickly explained that he simply was not ready for what he saw.

“They were like, ‘Uh, cut?’ And I was like, ‘I’m sorry. I wasn’t prepared for that,’” he added. “And I don’t think anybody else will be either.”

Now, in a more recent convention appearance, Ackles gave fans more detail about what the scene actually was. According to his latest comments, the moment involved a very disturbing and strange visual involving Homelander, played by Antony Starr.

The scene showed Homelander in a bath filled with stolen breast milk while also interacting with Soldier Boy. The moment is part of a larger storyline that continues to explore Homelander’s psychological instability and emotional breakdown.

According to Ackles, the reason he reacted so strongly was not just the shock value, but how unexpected the final version felt compared to what was originally planned. He said he thought he understood the scene going in, but the live filming changed everything.

The series creator, Eric Kripke, has not directly commented on Ackles’ specific reaction, but the show has a long history of changing scenes during filming to heighten impact and surprise even the actors involved.

For Ackles, the memory of that day clearly stayed with him. Even months later, he still describes it as one of the most surprising experiences he has had on set.
