The ending of The Boys has sparked a lot of discussion after creator Eric Kripke explained the final scene and what it means for Hughie, Starlight, and their future child.

In the series finale, the story jumps forward in time after the defeat of Homelander and the death of Butcher. The final moments show Hughie and Starlight living a calmer life together. They have started running an audiovisual store, and Starlight continues to act as a superhero when needed. The episode also reveals that Starlight is pregnant, and the baby will be named Robin.

The name is an emotional choice, as it honors Hughie’s first girlfriend, who was killed by A-Train in the very first episode of the series. This detail connects the ending back to the beginning of the story and shows how much Hughie has grown since that moment.

The final shot of the series shows Hughie looking emotional and hopeful as he looks at Starlight, who is smiling confidently. It gives a quiet ending after years of violence, chaos, and superpowered conflict.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Kripke explained more about what the ending means and whether the child will become a Supe in future stories. According to him, the answer is simple: the baby will not have powers.

Kripke explained that natural-born Supes are extremely rare in this world. The only known case is Ryan, the son of Homelander. Everyone else gets their powers through Compound V, not through birth.

“No, the only born superhero is Ryan. Everyone else has to be injected,” Kripke said. He added that Hughie and Starlight are likely to try and give their child a normal life, away from the dangerous world of superheroes and corporate control.

“I’d like to think that they’ve learned their lesson and they’re going to give baby Robin a happy normal life,” he explained.

This suggests that the story is not setting up another powerful Supe child storyline, at least for now. Instead, the focus is on peace and recovery after everything the characters have gone through.

At the end of the series, Hughie even turns down an offer from President Bob Singer. He is asked to join a new government task force meant to control Supes, but he refuses. This moment shows that he is done with the violent cycle he has been part of for so long.

According to reporting from ScreenRant, Kripke also spoke about the wider future of the universe. While he did not confirm new seasons or spin-offs like Gen V continuing in a major way, he did say there are still more stories that could be told in this world.

For now, though, the ending focuses on something much smaller and more personal. After years of bloodshed and chaos, Hughie and Starlight choose a quieter life. They step away from the fight against Vought and try to build something stable together.

The final scene leaves them in a hopeful place. Hughie looks at Starlight and their future child with relief, showing that even in a world full of Supes, they are trying to create a normal family life.

Kripke’s comments confirm that this ending was meant to close their story on a calmer note, not to set up another generation of superpowered conflict.
