Martin Scorsese’s Daughter Francesca Fires Back at Trolls Over Cruel Appearance Comments Amid ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Season 2 Casting
Francesca Scorsese has spoken out against online hate after receiving a wave of cruel comments following news that she joined the cast of Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2. The 26-year-old actress and social media personality addressed the situation in a TikTok video shared on Saturday, May 23.
In her video, Francesca, the daughter of Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, said the reaction to her casting announcement included some of the harshest remarks she has seen about herself. She directly responded to users who insulted her appearance and said she believes people who actively look for negativity online are not in a good place mentally.
She said, “I think if you go on people’s videos and you seek out negativity, you are a very, very sad person.” She also described some of the comments she received, including being compared to objects and cartoon characters, and being called ugly or fat. While she admitted she is not focused on fitting traditional beauty standards, she questioned why people feel the need to be so harsh. She added, “I don’t understand how hard it is to be a kind human being.”

Francesca also acknowledged that criticism has followed her for years, especially due to her background as part of a famous family. She said she understands why some people refer to her as a “nepo baby,” and admitted that she does benefit from her father’s name. At the same time, she emphasized that she is still working to build her own career and putting effort into her creative work.
She said, “I know I have doors opened for me. But I’m still trying to do the work, you know. I’m still going hard and being passionate and creating and doing the work.”
In her message, Francesca also spoke about the emotional impact of online harassment. She pointed out that constant trolling and hateful comments can affect people deeply, especially when strangers target them repeatedly. She warned that this kind of behavior can have serious consequences and encouraged people to be more mindful about what they say online.
She said, “This is the kind of thing that causes people to lose their lives … Your words have power behind them.”
Despite the negativity, Francesca made it clear that she is doing okay and has learned to handle criticism over time. She also mentioned feeling the pressure of living in the shadow of her father’s legacy, but said she is focused on continuing her own path in the entertainment industry.
She ended her video by encouraging users to make social media a kinder space. Following the response, she later thanked viewers for the supportive messages she received, saying she appreciated the kindness shown by her followers.
Her message has since gained positive reactions online, with many users praising her for speaking openly about cyberbullying and the pressures of growing up in a famous family.
