Tom Hardy’s future on MobLand season 3 is now uncertain after reports of a major fallout behind the scenes, but there is still a chance he could return.

According to reporting from journalist Matt Belloni in the What I’m Hearing newsletter at Puck, Paramount is now trying to arrange a meeting between Tom Hardy and the MobLand production team. The goal is to talk through the problems that led to Hardy being removed from the upcoming season.

The situation began when reports claimed Hardy was fired from the Paramount+ crime series. The main reason given was repeated lateness on set during production. There were also tensions between Hardy and showrunner and executive producer Jez Butterworth. Sources said Hardy was unhappy that MobLand shifted into a larger ensemble story instead of focusing mainly on his character.

Things reportedly became more serious during season 2 production. Butterworth is said to have threatened to leave the series if Hardy stayed on for season 3. After that, Paramount decided to remove Hardy from the project.

In the days following the firing news, more claims surfaced about difficulties on set. Some reports suggested Hardy clashed with co-stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. One report also described situations where filming was delayed because Hardy stayed in his trailer for long periods, which created tension among the cast and crew. These claims have not been publicly addressed by Hardy or others involved.

Even with all of this, the latest update suggests the story is not fully settled. Paramount executive producer David Glasser is reportedly open to sitting down with Hardy. That meeting could decide whether Hardy returns or if the show continues without him.

At the moment, MobLand season 3 is already being developed. A writers’ room is active, and early planning is underway to start filming later in the year. Writers are currently moving forward without including Hardy in their scripts. Casting discussions have also begun for actors who could replace him, especially for roles in his age range.

Still, Hardy remains a central figure in MobLand. He plays Harry Da Souza, a fixer connected to a powerful crime family led by Conrad, played by Pierce Brosnan, and Maeve, played by Helen Mirren. His character was left in a dangerous situation at the end of season 1 after being stabbed, though he survived and is expected to appear in season 2.

MobLand was created by Ronan Bennett, with Jez Butterworth co-writing season 1 and Guy Ritchie directing early episodes. The series has been a strong performer for Paramount+, gaining a large audience since its release. Reports say the first season alone brought in over 26 million views.

For now, nothing is confirmed about Hardy’s return. The production is moving forward, but the planned meeting could still change everything. Whether he comes back or not, MobLand season 3 is still expected to move ahead, and the decision will likely shape the future of the series.
