Tom Hardy’s ‘MobLand’ Future Not Over Yet as Paramount Works on His Return According to Reports
Tom Hardy has not been fired from the Paramount+ crime drama MobLand, according to a report from Variety. The actor, who plays gangster Harry Da Souza, is still in talks to return for a possible third season.
The rumor started after reports suggested Hardy might not come back due to behind-the-scenes tension. But production sources told Variety that this is not the case. One source said, “Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively.”
MobLand became one of Paramount+’s biggest hits after its first season launched in 2025. The show follows a British crime family led by characters played by Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. The series was created by Ronan Bennett and Jez Butterworth and is produced by 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios. Guy Ritchie also works on the show as an executive producer and has directed several episodes.
Season 2 has already finished filming but has not been released yet. Season 3 was expected to begin production later this year, with Hardy returning as Harry Da Souza.
A production source told Variety that efforts are still being made to keep Hardy involved. The source said, “Guy is probably pushing David Glasser to make it work. Guy likes working with Tom.”
Reports of conflict between Hardy and producers first appeared in the media, including claims about disagreements with writer Jez Butterworth and producer David Glasser. Variety confirmed that there were real tensions, but also made it clear that Hardy was never officially removed from the show.
The issues reportedly came from several factors. Some sources said Hardy was sometimes late on set and wanted changes to scripts. Others said the writing team sometimes delivered scripts very close to filming dates, which made preparation difficult. One source explained, “Tom likes to prepare.”
There were also challenges because Butterworth was not always present on set. This made it harder to adjust scripts in real time. A production insider said that when changes were needed, there was often no one available to approve them quickly.
Director Guy Ritchie’s involvement helped reduce tension during some episodes because he has experience making fast script decisions. One source said Ritchie and Hardy have a strong working relationship and understand each other well.
At the same time, the situation became more difficult when multiple directors worked on the series. Without a single strong decision-maker on set, disagreements over scripts and performance notes became more common.
Despite the tension, several sources said Hardy is still highly valued by the team. One insider said the show could continue without him if needed, but it would lose a major part of its appeal. However, they also added that writing his character out would not be simple.
Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan were also mentioned in reports, with sources saying they sometimes had to wait during filming when delays happened. Still, there was no personal conflict reported between the actors.

Variety reports that Hardy may still return for Season 3 if creative issues are resolved. He is also believed to be needed for possible reshoots for Season 2.
For now, the situation remains open. Discussions are ongoing, and no final decision has been made about Harry Da Souza’s future.
