A new clip from Masters of the Universe has been released ahead of the film’s theatrical debut this weekend, and it puts Skeletor and Evil-Lyn in the spotlight.

The scene features Jared Leto as Skeletor and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, and it quickly shows the tone the film is going for. The exchange between the two characters is playful, loud, and very exaggerated. Both characters lean heavily into a camp style that feels closer to the original 1980s cartoon than a serious fantasy film.

Skeletor, in particular, stands out as very over-the-top in the clip. Instead of being purely scary, he comes across as dramatic and comedic at the same time. Evil-Lyn matches that energy, and the two of them share a back-and-forth that feels intentionally theatrical.

Early reactions suggest that this is exactly the direction the filmmakers wanted. The film is not trying to be dark or realistic. Instead, it fully embraces the colorful and strange tone of the original Masters of the Universe cartoon.

Director Travis Knight spoke about this approach in an interview with GamesRadar+. He explained that the team wanted to stay true to what made Skeletor such a memorable character in the first place.

He said, “We loved [Skeletor], and we wanted to make sure that those things that we loved about him came through on the screen. He was funny, he was strange, he was scary, he was menacing, he looked cool.”

Knight also described the character’s personality as more complex than just being a villain. He added, “He was deeply insecure. He was always insulting his underlings. He had a very distinctive voice and a distinctive laugh.”

These ideas are clearly reflected in the new clip, where Skeletor can be seen mocking and insulting those around him while still maintaining a larger-than-life presence. His performance is designed to be entertaining as well as intimidating, depending on the moment.

The film itself is a new live-action version of the Masters of the Universe franchise, which is based on the classic Mattel toy line and animated series. It follows Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, as he returns to the planet Eternia to face Skeletor and discover his destiny as He-Man.

Alongside Galitzine, the cast includes Camila Mendes, Jared Leto, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Kristen Wiig, and Idris Elba. The story focuses on Adam’s journey from an ordinary life back to his heroic role as He-Man, as he fights to save his world.

The film has gone through several development changes over the years, moving between different studios and creative teams before landing at Amazon MGM Studios. Director Travis Knight eventually took over the project and helped shape its current version.

According to production details, filming took place in London from early to mid-2025, and the movie had its premiere in May at the TCL Chinese Theatre.

Masters of the Universe is scheduled for release in the United States on June 5, with international distribution handled by Sony Pictures Releasing.
