‘Man of Tomorrow’ Reveals Nicholas Hoult’s Comics-Accurate Lex Luthor War Suit in New Look
A new behind-the-scenes image from Man of Tomorrow shows Nicholas Hoult fully suited up as Lex Luthor in a comics-accurate war suit. The information comes from posts shared by James Gunn on social media, where he also commented on the costume and the ongoing production of the film.
James Gunn, who is directing the movie and co-running DC Studios, posted the image of Hoult on set and confirmed that this version of Lex Luthor’s suit is practical and built for movement. The film is currently in production and serves as the follow-up to Superman.
Gunn shared the image with a simple caption, writing, “Fit check. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow.”
The suit itself is based on one of Lex Luthor’s most famous comic book looks, a green armored war suit often used when he directly confronts Superman. This version has been adapted for live-action but keeps the core design that fans recognize from the comics.
Gunn also explained more about how the suit works in production. He said it was designed to be functional and not just decorative. In his posts, he wrote that the suit is “100 percent practical” and that Hoult is able to move freely while wearing it.
He added, “It’s unbelievably mobile, and yeah in the movie version he’s added unbreakable Lexiglas.”
This new look confirms that Lex Luthor will not just appear as a businessman or strategist in Man of Tomorrow, but will also physically engage in the action. The suit suggests a more direct conflict between Lex and Superman than in previous versions of the character.
Nicholas Hoult returns as Lex Luthor after first appearing in the DC Universe’s Superman film alongside David Corenswet, who plays Superman. The new movie continues their rivalry, but it also shifts the story into a larger threat that forces them to work together.
According to early story details shared by Gunn, Man of Tomorrow will focus on both Superman and Lex Luthor as central characters. The two are expected to form an uneasy alliance when they face a much bigger danger, Brainiac.
Gunn has described Brainiac as a major force in the story. He explained that the character represents pure intelligence without emotion or humanity. This creates a natural contrast with Superman, who is often defined by his empathy and human values.

The cast for Man of Tomorrow continues to grow. Alongside Hoult and Corenswet, the film includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and several other returning DC characters. Milly Alcock is also set to appear as Supergirl, while other heroes from across the DC universe are expected to return.
James Gunn previously said the film is not just focused on Superman. He explained that Lex Luthor plays an equally important role in the story. He said, “It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much.”
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released in July 2027, and this first look at Lex Luthor’s war suit gives fans an early glimpse at a more physical and intense version of the character in the new DC Universe.
