A newly released piece of promotional artwork for Avengers: Doomsday is giving Marvel fans another look at what could be one of the biggest superhero movies ever made. The artwork features several major Marvel teams and characters, including Doctor Doom, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and Black Panther, all connected to the film’s multiverse storyline.

The image has quickly caught the attention of fans because it brings together heroes and villains from different corners of Marvel’s universe. While Marvel Studios has not revealed many story details, the promo art appears to highlight the major players who will be involved in the battle against Doctor Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday will focus on a massive conflict that pulls together heroes from multiple universes. The Avengers from Earth-616, Wakandan forces, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four from Earth-828, and the original X-Men from another universe will all be drawn into the same fight.

At the center of the story is Doctor Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr. The casting announcement surprised fans when it was revealed in 2024. After spending more than a decade portraying Tony Stark and Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey is now returning to Marvel in a completely different role.

The upcoming film has had a long and unusual journey to the big screen. Back in 2022, Marvel announced two Avengers movies called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. The films were planned to conclude Phase Six of the MCU and bring an end to what Marvel called “The Multiverse Saga.”

At the time, Jonathan Majors was expected to continue playing Kang the Conqueror as the franchise’s main villain. However, plans changed over the following year. According to reports from Marvel and industry sources, director Destin Daniel Cretton left the project in late 2023, and writer Michael Waldron replaced Jeff Loveness. Around the same time, Marvel reportedly began exploring other directions for the story. Following Majors’ legal issues and his departure from the franchise, the studio decided to move away from Kang as the central villain.

A major change was announced in July 2024 when Marvel revealed that Anthony and Joe Russo would return to direct the next Avengers films. The studio also confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. would play Doctor Doom and that the movie’s new title would be Avengers: Doomsday.

One of the biggest talking points surrounding the film is its huge cast. The project will feature actors from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films as well as performers from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise. The story’s multiverse concept allows characters from different realities and timelines to finally share the screen.

Filming took place between April and September 2025 at Pinewood Studios in England. Additional scenes were shot on location in England and Bahrain.

According to Marvel Studios, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18. The story will continue one year later with Avengers: Secret Wars, which is currently set for release on December 17, 2027. With Doctor Doom leading the threat and heroes from multiple universes joining forces, the film is already shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most ambitious projects yet.
