James Gunn Reveals New Details About Lex Luthor’s Powerful Warsuit in ‘Man of Tomorrow’
New behind-the-scenes images from Man of Tomorrow give fans a clear look at Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor in a full war suit. The images were shared by James Gunn on social media, who is directing the film and also co-running DC Studios. The post quickly spread online and started new talk about how Lex Luthor will appear in the upcoming DC Universe movie.
James Gunn posted the photo with a simple caption, “Fit check. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow.” He also confirmed that the suit is fully practical and not just CGI. Gunn said that Nicholas Hoult is able to move very well in the costume, which suggests that the suit is designed for action scenes and close combat.
The war suit itself is based on Lex Luthor’s classic comic book design. It is a green armored suit that Luthor often uses when he wants to directly fight Superman. In the new image, the suit keeps that familiar look but also adds small updates for the live-action DCU style. One new detail fans noticed is an ARGUS logo on the chest, which may hint at a connection between Luthor and the government organization in this universe.

Nicholas Hoult returns as Lex Luthor after first playing the role in Superman (2025), which is the first film in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. That movie introduced both Hoult’s Lex Luthor and David Corenswet as Superman. Now Man of Tomorrow continues their story.
According to early details shared by James Gunn, the new film will not only focus on Superman but also on Lex Luthor as a central character. The story will show how the two enemies are forced into an uneasy partnership when a larger threat appears.
That threat is Brainiac, who is expected to play a major role in the film. Gunn has described Brainiac as a being of pure intelligence without emotion or empathy. This creates a strong contrast with Superman, who is known for his human feelings and strong moral values. The clash between these ideas is expected to be a key part of the story.
The cast of Man of Tomorrow also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Milly Alcock is set to return as Supergirl, and other DC characters are expected to appear as the story expands into a larger world. The film is building a wider DC Universe where many heroes exist in the same timeline.

James Gunn also spoke about Lex Luthor’s role in the movie during earlier comments. He explained that Luthor is not just a side villain in this story. Gunn said, “It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much.”
The film is still in production, and filming is expected to continue through 2026. Man of Tomorrow is currently scheduled to be released in July 2027. It will serve as a follow-up to Superman and will continue building the new DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran.
This first look at Lex Luthor’s war suit gives fans an early idea of a more active and physical version of the character. It also shows that the rivalry between Superman and Lex Luthor will remain at the center of the story, even as bigger threats arrive in the DC Universe.
