DC Studios is building strong hype around its upcoming film Supergirl, and the promotional rollout is now in full swing.

The studio has already released final trailers and TV spots for the movie, but new advertising partnerships are also revealing small details that may connect directly to the wider DC Universe story.

A recent campaign with Ulta Beauty has drawn attention from fans because of a small detail in the advertisement. In the promo, actress Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, is seen wearing a shirt that reads “Kandor City.” While it may look like a simple design choice, fans believe it carries a much deeper meaning connected to the character’s comic book history.

In DC Comics, Kandor is strongly linked to Brainiac, one of Superman’s most dangerous enemies. Brainiac is often described as an advanced android or cybernetic intelligence who travels across space collecting cities and civilizations. His goal is to shrink and preserve entire cultures as part of his personal “collection,” which he sees as a universal archive of knowledge.

One of the most well-known versions of the story explains that Kandor, a Kryptonian city, was stolen by Brainiac and stored inside a bottle-like container. This storyline has appeared in different versions of DC continuity over the years, including major comic arcs that shaped modern Superman and Supergirl mythology.

Because of this, the “Kandor City” reference in the Supergirl marketing has led fans to believe that Brainiac may play a major role in the film’s storyline or in the larger DC Universe plan. It also raises questions about how Supergirl’s backstory will be adapted for the new film universe.

Supergirl has several different origins in the comics. In some versions, she comes from Argo City, a surviving Kryptonian settlement protected after the destruction of Krypton. In other versions, Kandor becomes central to her history, especially when Brainiac is involved. It is possible the DC Universe could combine both ideas into a single storyline.

If Kandor is part of the new DCU story, it could also connect directly to Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Some reports suggest that the upcoming Superman sequel may include Brainiac as a major threat. In comic book storylines like Superman: Brainiac by Geoff Johns, Brainiac’s capture of Kandor plays a key role in his conflict with Superman and Supergirl.

In those stories, Superman and Supergirl often work together to stop Brainiac and rescue what remains of Krypton’s people. This has led to speculation that the DCU films may be building toward a shared storyline where both heroes face Brainiac across multiple movies.

Supergirl is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on June 26. With the marketing campaign continuing to release new hints and details, fans are now watching closely for any signs of how the film will connect to Superman and the future of the DC Universe.
