The film itself, titled Masters of the Universe (internationally released as He-Man and the Masters of the Universe), is a sword and sorcery movie directed by Travis Knight. It is based on the classic Mattel franchise and marks the second live-action adaptation after the 1987 version. Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam / He-Man, while Camila Mendes plays a key role alongside a large ensemble cast that includes Jared Leto, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Kristen Wiig, Morena Baccarin, and Idris Elba.

The story follows Prince Adam as he returns to the planet Eternia and accepts his destiny as He-Man. Along the way, he must confront the evil forces led by Skeletor while also discovering his own strength and responsibility as a hero.

The project has had a long and complicated development history. After early attempts to reboot the franchise in the 2000s, the film changed studios and creative teams multiple times. In 2009, Sony Pictures Entertainment first developed a new live-action version with Escape Artists producing. Years later, the rights moved to Netflix in 2022, before eventually shifting again to Amazon MGM Studios in 2024, where Travis Knight took over directing duties. Casting changes also followed, with Nicholas Galitzine replacing earlier actors attached to the role of He-Man.

Filming took place in London from January to June 2025, and the movie premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre on May 18. It is set for theatrical release in the United States on June 5, with international distribution handled by Sony Pictures Releasing International.

The film has received mixed to positive early reviews, but online attention has been heavily driven by the cast’s promotional content. Videos like Mendes and Galitzine’s TikTok moment continue to fuel interest in the movie as audiences follow both the film and its stars’ off-screen interactions during the global press tour.
