The future of The Four Seasons remains uncertain, but there are still reasons for fans to stay hopeful.

Netflix has not officially renewed the comedy series for a third season, but many viewers are already wondering what comes next after Season 2. While the show’s latest season did not attract the same audience as its debut, its strong reviews and Netflix’s recent approach to comedy renewals suggest that the story may not be over yet.

The Four Seasons, created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, is based on the 1981 film of the same name written and directed by Alan Alda. The series follows a close group of longtime friends whose regular vacations become increasingly complicated as relationships change and personal challenges emerge.

Season 2 continued to build on those friendships while introducing new drama, romance, and emotional moments. The cast includes Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney, Marco Calvani, Erika Henningsen, Colman Domingo, Steve Carell, Steven Pasquale, and David Tennant.

According to viewership data, Season 2 experienced a significant decline compared to the first season. Reports indicate that the second season’s opening-week audience dropped by approximately 63 percent from the show’s debut season. In previous years, a drop of that size might have been enough for Netflix to cancel a series quickly.

However, Netflix’s strategy has changed in recent years, especially when it comes to comedy shows. Several comedy series have received renewals despite lower viewing numbers than expected. Because of that, industry observers are not ruling out a third season for The Four Seasons.

One example often mentioned is A Man on the Inside. That series reportedly saw an even larger decline in viewership, around 66 percent, and failed to make a major impact on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 rankings. Despite that, Netflix still chose to renew the show for another season.

That comparison has given fans of The Four Seasons some optimism. While the audience numbers may not be as strong as they once were, Netflix has shown that viewership is not always the only factor considered when making renewal decisions.

Critical reception has also worked in the show’s favor. Season 2 currently holds an 88 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The site’s critics consensus reads, “Finding renewed purpose after a major loss, The Four Seasons balances laughter and heartbreak with the confidence of a show settling comfortably into its own rhythm.”

Meanwhile, Metacritic assigned the season a score of 77 out of 100 based on critic reviews, indicating generally favorable reactions.

Positive reviews can often help a series remain valuable to a streaming platform, especially when it comes to attracting long-term viewers and maintaining a strong reputation.

For now, Netflix has not announced whether The Four Seasons will return. Still, between its critical success, recognizable cast, and Netflix’s recent history of renewing comedy series despite lower viewership numbers, a third season remains a realistic possibility.

Until an official decision is made, fans will have to wait and see whether the group of friends will reunite for another vacation and another chapter of their story.
