‘Obsession’ TikTok Prank Trend Takes Over as Girlfriends Turn the Tables on Boyfriends in Viral Scare Challenge
A new TikTok trend inspired by the horror film Obsession is spreading fast online, with girlfriends using scenes from the movie to scare their boyfriends in real-life situations.
The trend started after audiences began recreating moments from the film’s most unsettling character, Nikki (Inde Navarrette), who becomes possessed after a supernatural wish goes wrong.

Obsession follows Bear (Michael Johnston), a music store worker who finds a mysterious object called the “One Wish Willow.” He uses it to make Nikki fall in love with him, but the wish quickly spirals into something dark. Nikki becomes controlled by a strange force and develops an intense, disturbing obsession with Bear. Her behavior shifts completely, turning affectionate moments into frightening outbursts.
One line in particular has become the center of the TikTok trend: Nikki’s emotional and aggressive question, “Why don’t you love me?” Fans of the movie have taken that line and turned it into a prank, usually shouting it suddenly in normal situations to trigger a jump reaction.

On TikTok, multiple creators have shared videos of themselves using the line on their boyfriends after watching the film in cinemas together. One viral video posted by Lauren (@lauren.lynn_) shows her and her boyfriend sitting in a car when she suddenly yells the quote. The boyfriend visibly panics and tells her to stop while she laughs at his reaction. That clip has already gained more than 5.3 million views.

Another user, @sienna.gdo, posted a similar video after asking her boyfriend to rate the film. As he responds, she suddenly imitates Nikki’s voice and shouts the same line, causing him to jump in shock. That video has also gone viral, reaching over 1.7 million views.
A third TikTok creator, @itzelxlel, joined the trend with a caption explaining it as a challenge idea after watching Obsession. In her video, she scares her boyfriend in the car, and his reaction is immediate and intense. He tells her, “It’s actually making my skin f**ing crawl,” before the clip cuts off. That post has surpassed 2 million views.
The popularity of the trend is tied directly to how unsettling Nikki’s transformation is in the film. Obsession builds its horror around emotional manipulation, where a harmless wish turns into psychological control. The character’s shift from a normal friend into a terrifying, obsessive presence makes her dialogue easy to turn into shock humor on social media.
The film itself, written and directed by Curry Barker in his feature debut, centers on Bear’s decision to use a supernatural object to force Nikki’s affection. What follows is a chain of disturbing consequences as Nikki’s behavior becomes increasingly unstable under the influence of the wish.
According to production background reported by Focus Features, the film began as an original idea developed by Barker after his earlier viral work online. It was later produced on a modest budget and went on to achieve strong box office and critical success after its release in 2026.

Now, beyond the cinema, Obsession has found a second life online through TikTok. The mix of horror, humor, and shock reactions has turned Nikki’s most intense moments into viral content, with couples recreating scenes in everyday settings like cars, homes, and public places. The trend continues to grow as more viewers discover the film and join in on the prank-style recreations.
