Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation have officially revealed new details about their upcoming Ghostbusters animated series. The announcement includes the series title and its official logo. The new show will be called Ghostbusters: Night Shift and is planned to premiere on Netflix in 2027.

The reveal was made during Ghostbusters Day, which celebrates the anniversary of the original 1984 film. The event brought together key people behind the project, including showrunners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan. They were joined by Ghost Corps executive producers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan.

The series is being developed as a new chapter in the long-running Ghostbusters franchise. It continues the legacy that started with the original films and later expanded into animated shows and other media.

The Ghostbusters franchise has a long history in animation. After the success of Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989), the animated series The Real Ghostbusters aired from 1986 to 1991. It ran on ABC and later in syndication. Another follow-up series, Extreme Ghostbusters, was released in 1997. The new Netflix series is the latest attempt to bring the franchise back in animated form for a modern audience.

The announcement event took place at the FDNY’s Hook & Ladder 8 firehouse in New York, a location strongly connected to the original films. This is the same firehouse used in the first two Ghostbusters movies. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan spoke at the event and also took time to acknowledge fans of the franchise.

They highlighted the success of the “Ghostbusters Give Back” initiative, which recently passed its goal of raising over $500,000. As part of the celebration, special “Golden Trap” awards were given to Ghostbusters fan groups in Buffalo, Los Angeles, and Virginia. These groups were recognized for raising the highest amounts of donations.

During the same event, Sony Pictures Animation and Ghost Corps also made a charitable contribution. They presented a $150,000 matching donation to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. This brought the total donation amount to $666,000, which was shared during the celebration.

The community aspect of the franchise was also emphasized through additional charity work connected to the Ghostbusters brand. Actor Celeste O’Connor, who appeared in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, visited Maimonides Children’s Hospital in Brooklyn. There, she spent time with pediatric patients and delivered hospital gowns and toys in partnership with Starlight.

Fans were also involved in fundraising efforts. The Buffalo Ghostbusters organized a live auction and special presentation to support the FDNY Foundation. At the same time, the Ghostbusters in Concert National Fall Tour worked with Black Ink to donate a portion of ticket sales to related charitable causes.

The new series Ghostbusters: Night Shift is expected to continue building on the franchise’s mix of comedy, supernatural action, and teamwork. While full story details have not yet been released, the announcement confirms that Netflix and Sony are planning a major animated revival aimed at both longtime fans and new audiences.
