Scary Movie 6 is off to a very strong start at the box office and is now on pace to set a new franchise record, according to early industry reporting from box office analysts and entertainment trade coverage tracking the weekend results.

The film, released by Paramount and Miramax, earned about 24.7 million dollars in North America on Friday alone, including previews. It is playing in 3,490 theaters across the United States and Canada. Based on current projections, the movie is expected to reach around 56 million dollars by the end of the weekend. That number would make it the highest opening weekend in the history of the Scary Movie franchise.

The current franchise record is held by Scary Movie 4, which opened to 49.7 million dollars in 2006. If projections hold, Scary Movie 6 will surpass that mark by a comfortable margin. The film also has a production budget of about 30 million dollars, meaning it is already positioned to become profitable very quickly based on its opening performance.

This new entry is especially notable because it marks the return of the Wayans brothers to the franchise in a major way. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Damon Wayans Jr. all appear on screen. The script was written by Keenen Ivory Wayans and Craig Wayans, along with Rick Alvarez. This is the first time the core Wayans creative team has been deeply involved in the series since the early 2000s.

The cast also brings back several familiar faces from earlier films. Anna Faris returns as Cindy Campbell, and Regina Hall reprises her role as Brenda Meeks. The supporting cast includes Kenan Thompson, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Carmen Electra, Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Heidi Gardner. The film is directed by Michael Tiddes and continues the franchise’s style of parody and slapstick humor.

The movie targets a wide range of popular horror and pop culture films for parody. It references recent and classic titles such as Scream, Get Out, Longlegs, Sinners, M3GAN, and Weapons. The approach is designed to appeal to both long-time fans of the franchise and younger audiences familiar with newer horror trends.

Industry reporting suggests that strong audience turnout on opening day is helping push the film toward its record-breaking weekend projection. The performance is also being viewed as a positive sign for comedy films in general, which have struggled in recent years compared to superhero and horror releases.

While other new films are in theaters this weekend, Scary Movie 6 is clearly leading the box office. Its Friday earnings alone place it ahead of several competing releases, and its momentum heading into Saturday and Sunday is considered strong.

If the current forecast holds, Scary Movie 6 will not only become the biggest opening in the franchise but also one of the strongest comedy openings in recent years. The final results will depend on weekend audience turnout, but early numbers show clear demand for the return of the parody series.
