A new film has quickly climbed to the top of Netflix’s global charts, drawing huge attention from viewers around the world. While reactions to the movie have been mixed, its popularity has grown fast, making it one of the most talked-about releases on the platform this week.

Jennifer Lopez’s Office Romance has become the most-watched movie on Netflix worldwide. According to Netflix global Top 10 data for June 6, the film is sitting at number one, ahead of several new and returning titles on the platform.

The movie is a romantic comedy, directed by Ol Parker and written by Brett Goldstein and Joe Kelly. It stars Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein in the lead roles. The data about the ranking comes from Netflix’s official global charts.

The story follows Jennifer Lopez as Jackie Cruz, who is the CEO of a company called AirCruz. Brett Goldstein plays Daniel Blanchflower, a new in-house lawyer at the same company. The film builds around their working relationship, which slowly turns into something more complicated. Other cast members include Betty Gilpin, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, Bradley Whitford, Edward James Olmos, and several others in supporting roles.

The full cast list is large and includes many well-known actors. Betty Gilpin plays Sydney Bloom, Jackie’s close assistant. Amy Sedaris plays Julie Schatz. Tony Hale appears as the HR director George Dudek. Bradley Whitford plays the company’s general counsel. Edward James Olmos plays Captain Jack Cruz, Jackie’s father and the founder of AirCruz. The movie also features Rick Hoffman, Jodie Whittaker, and many more in smaller roles.

Even with a strong cast, the film has received mixed reactions from critics. According to Rotten Tomatoes, as reported on the platform, the movie holds a 51% score based on 35 reviews, with an average rating of 4.9 out of 10. On Metacritic, the film has a score of 50 out of 100 based on 18 critics, which indicates “mixed or average” reviews.

Some critics were not impressed with the storytelling. Lisa Kennedy of The New York Times wrote, “The writers Goldstein and Joe Kelly attempt to cram a streaming season’s worth of character zigs into a two-hour film. Alas, the landing isn’t smooth.” Monica Castillo of The AV Club was also critical, saying, “While the romance here feels tenuous at best, the comedy is in even worse shape, often mistaking uncomfortable oversharing for punchlines. If this was meant to be a return to form for Lopez, it’s not a satisfying comeback.”

At the same time, some reviews were more positive. Guy Lodge of Variety gave a softer take, writing, “Soft and cottony and just peculiar enough to be memorable, Office Romance gives the people what they want.” Brian Truitt of USA Today also pointed out both the strengths and weaknesses of the film, saying, “The film can’t escape all of the usual genre tropes or overt sentimentality, yet that’s tempered by a bawdy sense of humor and fits of wild broad comedy.”

Despite the mixed critical response, audiences appear to be reacting differently. The Netflix global ranking shows strong viewer interest, with Office Romance taking the top spot worldwide on June 6. The list includes other popular titles such as The Murder of Rachel Nickell, Swapped, Ladies First, and Creed III, but none of them match the current viewership of Office Romance.

The film’s performance suggests that audience viewing habits are not always aligned with critic reviews. Even with a divided critical reception, Office Romance has clearly connected with Netflix viewers across many regions.

As of now, the movie remains at number one on Netflix’s global chart, making it one of the platform’s biggest releases of the year.
