Bethesda has confirmed the return of the Thieves Guild in The Elder Scrolls Online as part of a new Season One update, bringing fresh story content and a release date during the Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2026. The news was shared alongside updates for Fallout 76, showing that both long-running online games are still receiving major support.

According to details revealed during the showcase and reported by gaming outlet TheGamer, this new update is part of a wider 2026 roadmap for The Elder Scrolls Online. Bethesda previously outlined a seasonal content structure for the game, starting with Season Zero, which is already live. That earlier season introduced new features like the Night Market group zone and updated difficulty options for players exploring the world.

Season One is now set to expand that content model in a much bigger way, with the return of one of the most popular factions in the series. The Thieves Guild will once again play a central role in new story missions. A new trailer shown during the event gave players a first look at what is coming next, along with confirmation of the release date.

The new storyline will focus on players working alongside the Thieves Guild to take on a criminal group known as the Koldane Cartel. The adventure will take players into the city of Daggerfall, a familiar location for long-time Elder Scrolls fans. Along the way, players will meet new characters connected to the guild, building a fresh storyline around stealth, crime, and underground alliances.

The Thieves Guild has always been one of the most well-known factions in the Elder Scrolls universe. It first gained major popularity in earlier series entries, where players could take on jobs involving stealth, theft, and secret missions. While The Elder Scrolls Online already featured its own version of the guild in earlier updates, this new season is designed to bring it back into focus with new content and a more structured storyline.

Bethesda has been slowly reshaping The Elder Scrolls Online through seasonal updates, moving away from large single expansions and toward smaller, more frequent content drops. Season One: Return of the Thieves Guild is one of the biggest examples of that shift so far. It continues the story direction started in Season Zero while expanding the game’s world with new areas and missions.

The update also reflects Bethesda’s broader approach to its live-service games. Alongside Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76 is also receiving new incentives and content updates, even if fans are still waiting for major announcements about future single-player titles in both franchises.

The Elder Scrolls Online Season One: Return of the Thieves Guild is scheduled to launch on July 8. It will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Mac. According to Bethesda’s presentation, more details about gameplay systems and rewards will be shared closer to release.

For now, the reveal confirms one clear thing: the Thieves Guild is back, and it is once again ready to pull players into the shadows of Tamriel.
