American Horror Story season 13 is currently in production in New York City, and early comments from the cast are already building hype for what’s coming next in Ryan Murphy’s long-running FX horror series. The new season does not yet have an official subtitle, but it is confirmed to be a direct continuation of the fan-favorite third season, Coven.

For longtime viewers, this return to Coven is a major moment. Ryan Murphy has already confirmed that the new season will bring back several key cast members from the 2013 storyline, including Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, and Gabourey Sidibe, all reprising their original roles.

Jessica Lange is also returning to American Horror Story for the first time since season 8. However, it has not been confirmed whether she will return as Fiona Goode from Coven or possibly as another past character, with rumors suggesting a different role could be on the table.

New cast member Berto Colón, who plays Joe the Doorman, has now shared some early details about the tone of the season while speaking about his experience on set. He confirmed that filming is still underway and suggested that the new chapter leans heavily into darker horror themes.

He said, “I’ve already worked on four of the episodes… they’re still shooting in New York City. Season 13 will be 13 episodes, and it’s public knowledge that all the stars are coming back. The story is a New York story that is going to be very freaky, very demonic… it’s going to involve a lot of scary elements.”

Colón also spoke about the scale of the production and how the story feels like it is expanding the Coven universe in a new direction. He described the creative world as something that keeps growing with each season and hinted that the new episodes may push the horror even further than before.

He added, “It’s a crazy world that Ryan Murphy has created and it’s incredible that I join these ensembles and something evolves from them that becomes better than the original situation. I’m hired for one or two episodes and then I end up doing an entire season… so, fingers crossed, that’ll be the same case here.”

While details about his character remain limited, Colón did reveal that his role is closely tied to Jessica Lange’s character, though he did not go into further explanation. That connection has already sparked curiosity among fans, especially given Lange’s long history with the franchise.

He said, “My role in AHS is very directly connected to Jessica Lange’s character, and she’s number one. It’s gonna be fun. Based on the years of these and the seasons that I’ve watched, I think this is gonna be one of the more interesting ones as well.”

With filming still ongoing and the release window set for 2026, more official updates are expected in the coming months. For now, the return to Coven is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated chapters in American Horror Story history.
