The MCU has been building toward some genuinely bold swings in Phase Six, and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ may be the boldest of all. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the July blockbuster stars Tom Holland as a Peter Parker that the entire world has forgotten, navigating a new mutation, a stacked villain lineup, and a web of alliances that could unravel at any moment. With a Global Fan Event locked in for Amsterdam on June 17 where Sony and Marvel are expected to officially drop the second trailer, anticipation has been building to a fever pitch.

That anticipation just got a significant boost, and it arrived early. A bootleg version of the second trailer for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ leaked online over the past day, circulating across social media in blurry, low-quality footage. Sony’s response was swift, with the studio issuing copyright strikes against the video on social media, a move that inadvertently confirmed the footage as genuine.

The single biggest reveal buried inside those leaked frames is the one fans have been theorizing about for months. The footage reportedly includes a first proper look at the Savage Hulk returning to the big screen for the first time since he briefly fought Thanos during the opening of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, and Peter Parker’s reaction makes the scale of the moment clear, with Holland’s Peter saying, “Okay, I didn’t know you could get that big.”

The context behind the Savage Hulk’s return is rooted in a device the MCU has quietly been building toward for years. Bruce Banner has been using a Hulk Inhibitor Device to remain in his human form since the events of Endgame, a piece of technology that has been visible in previous MCU entries.

In the leaked trailer, Peter visits Banner in a laboratory seeking help with his own mutation, asking whether it is possible to suppress the harmful aspects of mutating DNA. Banner deflects philosophically before flashing his inhibitor device and warning Peter, “If you see me without this, run,” a line that immediately reads as the film’s most loaded piece of foreshadowing.

The merchandising had already tipped the audience off. The synopsis for a Hulk action figure released ahead of the film confirmed that the inhibitor has its limits, describing a return of the Hulk in his feral form within the events of Brand New Day.

What makes the Savage Hulk’s appearance so narratively charged is who appears to be pulling the strings behind it. Sadie Sink’s mystery character, widely theorized by fans to be Jean Grey, is depicted in the leaked footage as possessing terrifying telepathic abilities, jumping from mind to mind while hunting for Spider-Man, and apparently threatening MJ in the process. Multiple reports and merchandise details describe her powers as pink-hued and visually similar to the Void effects seen in ‘Thunderbolts’, further feeding the Jean Grey speculation.

According to the leak description, Sink’s character appears to be the force that triggers Hulk’s transformation, essentially mind-controlling Banner and forcing the inhibitor to fail. If accurate, it makes the new villain the most dangerous figure in the MCU’s current lineup, capable of weaponizing one of the Avengers’ most destructive members against his own allies.

Despite the leak, Sony is pressing ahead without changing its plans. The studio has announced a Global Fan Event in Amsterdam on June 17, with Tom Holland and Zendaya appearing in person, promising a special reveal that will be shared worldwide. Ticket presales are also expected to open the same day, which means the fan event effectively functions as the film’s commercial starting gun regardless of what has already circulated online.

The full confirmed cast for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Michael Mando returning as Scorpion, and Marvin Jones III as Tombstone. The film is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on July 31.
