Netflix Reveals the Fate of Its Boozy Period Drama ‘House of Guinness’
Netflix has officially decided to continue its period drama House of Guinness, giving fans a clear answer about the show’s future after months of speculation. The update confirms that the series will return for a second season, extending the story of the famous Irish brewing family first introduced in season one.
According to Variety, Netflix has now greenlit season two of House of Guinness. Production is expected to begin in early 2027. The streamer has not made any official public comment on the renewal at this time.
The series was created by Stephen Knight, known for his work on Peaky Blinders. It is set in 1860s Ireland and follows the powerful Guinness family after the death of their patriarch, Sir Benjamin Guinness. His death leaves behind a brewing empire and a bitter struggle among his heirs as they fight to control and expand the business.
The first season focuses heavily on family tension, ambition, and political unrest in Ireland during a turbulent historical period. The story mixes personal rivalries with wider social conflict, showing how the Guinness family’s influence connects with the world around them. The show is produced by Banijay-owned Kudos.
When it launched in September 2025, the series quickly gained attention for its dramatic tone and style. Many viewers compared it to a mix of Succession and Peaky Blinders, pointing to its focus on power struggles inside a wealthy family and its gritty historical setting.
The cast includes Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, and Fionn O’Shea, who play members of the Guinness family. Other major cast members include James Norton, Niamh McCormack, Jack Gleeson, Seamus O’Hara, Michael McElhatton, David Wilmot, Dervla Kirwan, Danielle Galligan, and Ann Skelly.

Critically, the first season performed well in several regions. Reviewers in both the United Kingdom and the United States described the show as stylish, engaging, and well produced. It also launched with an 89% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, showing strong early viewer interest.
However, the series also faced criticism, especially in Ireland. Some viewers and commentators pointed out historical inaccuracies in how the show portrayed post-famine politics and anti-colonial movements. While the series presents itself as fiction inspired by real events, these concerns sparked debate about its interpretation of Irish history.
The first season ended on a major cliffhanger involving key characters, which left audiences expecting a continuation. Stephen Knight had previously suggested plans for a longer story arc, telling the Irish Mirror that the series could expand significantly over time.
He said, “We are going to do season two and three and four … we are going to do this all the way to the 1960s.”
Despite that long-term vision, there is some uncertainty about how involved Knight will be in future seasons. He is currently working on the upcoming James Bond film script, which may limit his availability during production.
Even so, the renewal confirms that Netflix sees strong potential in the series. With production now scheduled for 2027, House of Guinness is set to continue exploring the rise and struggles of one of Ireland’s most famous families.
