Ahead of the upcoming release of House of the Dragon season 3, new comments from actor Steve Toussaint are giving fans a clearer idea of where Lord Corlys Velaryon’s story is heading and how the show may redefine the future of his family line.

The information comes from an interview conducted with ScreenRant, where Toussaint spoke about Corlys, his children, and the emotional direction of the character going into the new season. The series is set to return on June 21, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.

In the interview, Toussaint explained that Corlys now sees one of his sons, Alyn, as the true continuation of his legacy, even though Alyn was born outside of marriage. The character’s perspective is shaped heavily by recent losses, including the death of his wife Rhaenys Targaryen and the long absence of his son Laenor Velaryon, who previously faked his death.

According to Toussaint, Corlys is no longer thinking only about power or status. Instead, he is forced to face the reality of his relationships and what he failed to do as a father. He said Corlys sees Alyn as someone who reflects his own strength and independence, but also his refusal to accept help.

He described how Corlys initially expects a simple reunion, where acknowledgment would be enough for reconciliation. Instead, he suggested Alyn reacts with anger and rejection, making it clear that recognition after years of absence is not something easily accepted. This pushes Corlys into a deeper emotional shift.

As Toussaint put it during the interview, Corlys has to rethink what truly matters. He said, “What is important is not the trinkets and that stuff. It is about being there.” He also added that Corlys is still learning this lesson and slowly moving toward understanding it.

The actor also spoke about how Corlys is dealing with grief after losing Rhaenys. He described her as the person who made Corlys feel most open and honest, and said that without her, the character feels unbalanced and emotionally distant. Laenor’s absence also adds to that sense of loss, even though his fate was tied to a deception that kept him alive but removed him from the family.

Corlys’ focus throughout the story has always been tied to legacy and the survival of House Velaryon. Toussaint explained that his character spent years trying to secure his family’s position near the throne and ensure the name continues into the future. Now, that goal is being challenged by the reality of his fractured family.

The actor also reflected on a key moment from season 2, where Alyn expressed frustration about growing up without acknowledgment from his father. That scene, he said, deeply affects Corlys and forces him to confront the emotional damage caused by his absence.

In Toussaint’s view, Corlys is now realizing that both Alyn and Addam are capable of surviving without him, but that does not remove his responsibility as a father. He suggested the character is beginning to understand that legacy is not only about titles or bloodlines, but also about presence and care.

As House of the Dragon season 3 approaches, the story will continue to balance political conflict with personal consequences. According to Toussaint’s interview with ScreenRant, Corlys’ arc will remain centered on loss, accountability, and the difficult process of reconnecting with the children he once left behind.
