Dinosaurs, Black Holes, and Puppet Pike Shine as the ‘Strange New Worlds’ Season 4 Trailer Sets Course for the Endgame

Few shows in the modern era of streaming science fiction have managed to recapture the spirit of classic ‘Star Trek‘ the way ‘Strange New Worlds’ has. Among the modern ‘Star Trek’ series on Paramount+, ‘Strange New Worlds’ is widely regarded as the best, holding a 94% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

That reputation has carried the show through three seasons, building a devoted fanbase eager to see where Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise boldly go next.

The road ahead, however, is now a finite one. With its fifth and final season already waiting in the wings, ‘Strange New Worlds’ is entering its endgame, with all eyes on how it will bring an end to ‘Star Trek’s’ current streaming era.

Season three divided fans with its wildly uneven tone, and the pressure on the creative team to deliver a satisfying conclusion has never been greater. That context makes the arrival of a fresh trailer for season four feel like a genuine event.

At CCXP Mexico, the ‘Strange New Worlds’ panel took the stage at the Banamex Center’s Thunder Stage, where the season four teaser trailer was unveiled and the show’s return date was officially confirmed. Stars Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding, and Paul Wesley were on hand in Mexico City to announce that ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ season four will premiere on July 23, 2026. The energy in the room was matched by what appeared on screen.

The trailer is packed with dramatic imagery, including prehistoric lands, a shimmering black hole, exploding planets, galloping horses, horror moments, a touching Spock and Pike hug, and even a bellowing T-rex. Captain Pike himself delivers the season’s mission reset in the voiceover, saying he has ever been prone to seek adventure and to investigate where wiser men would have left well enough alone. After a third season largely confined to the ship, the footage signals a clear return to the kind of wide-open exploration the show’s title has always promised.

Season four will also include a puppet-themed episode featuring the U.S.S. Enterprise crew reimagined as puppets created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, with the episode directed by Jordan Canning, whose previous credits include ‘Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock.’ Fan reaction to the concept has been cautiously mixed since it was first announced, though the show’s track record with ambitious gimmick episodes, most notably the beloved musical outing, gives many viewers reason to trust the execution.

The 10-episode season will roll out weekly on Thursdays on Paramount+, with the finale arriving on September 24. The already-wrapped season five will be a shortened six-episode final season, expected to close out the Alex Kurtzman era of ‘Star Trek’ on Paramount+ in 2027.

With that in mind, season four carries the weight of a farewell lap, and the trailer leans into that bittersweet momentum. Speaking to the crowd at CCXP, Romijn expressed her confidence in what’s coming, telling Space.com the cast and crew are proud of both upcoming seasons and consider season four their best work yet.

With cowboys, carnivores, and the creeping shadow of Pike’s canonical fate all competing for space in a single trailer, ‘Strange New Worlds’ is clearly not going gentle into that good night. Whether the penultimate season finally sticks the landing after a rocky third outing is the question every Trek fan is wrestling with right now, so share your first impressions of the trailer and what you’re hoping to see from the Enterprise crew before the final voyage begins.
