Star Trek (Franchise)
Star Trek is a science fiction franchise created by Gene Roddenberry that began with the original TV series in 1966. It follows the crew of the starship Enterprise as they explore space and encounter new worlds and civilizations, and it was inspired by adventure stories and classic science fiction ideas. Over time, it grew into a massive franchise with multiple TV series, films, books, games, and other media across different timelines and continuities.
It became a major pop culture phenomenon with a dedicated global fanbase known as “Trekkies” or “Trekkers.” The franchise is also known for its influence on science fiction and its early push for diversity on television, including one of the first multiracial casts in American TV history.
