‘Baywatch’ Is Back! First Teaser Reveals New Cast and Release Date
Baywatch is officially making its return, and Fox has given fans the first look at the upcoming reboot. The network has released a new teaser trailer for the series, confirming that the new version of the iconic beach drama will premiere in January 2027.
The teaser introduces Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, the son of the original show’s legendary lifeguard Mitch Buchannon. In the preview, Hobie steps into a leadership role as a Baywatch Captain and describes the job as “the best job in the world.”
According to Fox, the new series will follow Hobie as he tries to continue the Buchannon family legacy while dealing with unexpected changes in his personal life. His world changes when his daughter Charlie Vale, played by Jessica Belkin, arrives and wants to become part of the Baywatch tradition.
The reboot will feature a new generation of lifeguards, including Hassie Harrison as Nat, Shay Mitchell as Trna, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Noah Beck as Luke, and Brooks Nader as Selene. Social media star Livvy Dunne will also make her acting debut in the series as Grace.
Fans of the original show will also get a familiar face returning. David Chokachi will reprise his role as Cody Madison from the classic series, bringing a connection between the original Baywatch and the new version.
Fox’s reboot aims to keep the elements that made the original series famous while updating the story for modern audiences. The show will include dramatic rescues, relationship problems, personal conflicts, and the high-pressure situations that come with protecting Southern California’s beaches.
The original Baywatch first premiered in 1989 and became one of the biggest television shows in the world. According to Fox, the series was broadcast in more than 200 countries and at its peak reached over a billion viewers every week. The show became closely connected with beach culture and helped turn its stars into international celebrities.
The new Baywatch series is being produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle. Matt Nix, known for projects such as Burn Notice and The Gifted, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. The executive producing team also includes McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz. McG directed the first episode of the reboot.
The new series comes years after the original show ended and follows a 2017 Baywatch movie adaptation starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. While that film took a comedy approach, the upcoming Fox series appears to be returning to the action-drama style that made the television series popular.
With a mix of new stars, returning connections to the original story, and a fresh take on the lifeguard world, Fox hopes the reboot can introduce Baywatch to a new generation while bringing longtime fans back to the beach.
The first teaser gives viewers a preview of the new team, but more details about the story and characters are expected to be revealed as the January 2027 premiere gets closer.
