Does The Odyssey Have a Post-Credit Scene? Here Is Everything Christopher Nolan Fans Need to Know
Christopher Nolan has built an entire career on doing things his own way, and that stubborn independence has followed him straight into his latest release. After the sweeping success of ‘Oppenheimer’ in 2023, the director spent the last several years assembling one of the most stacked casts of his career for an ambitious retelling of Homer’s ancient poem.
‘The Odyssey’ finally hit theaters this week, and the marketing rollout leading up to release turned into its own kind of spectacle, complete with a leaked cast list controversy and a wave of reviews praising its scale. As with any major theatrical event these days, moviegoers walked in with one very practical question on their minds before the lights even dimmed.
That question is whether ‘The Odyssey’ has a post-credit scene, and the answer is a firm no. Multiple outlets that screened the film confirm that once the story reaches its conclusion, the credits roll without any additional footage tucked in afterward, meaning there is no reason to sit through the entire scroll waiting for a hidden reveal.
This will not come as a shock to longtime fans of the director. Nolan has never included a post credits sequence in any of his films, not even during his run on ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, which arrived at the height of the superhero genre’s obsession with teaser stingers. His approach has always treated the final frame of a film as the true ending, and ‘The Odyssey’ follows that same philosophy.
It also helps that a film built entirely around one self contained myth was never likely to be setting up a sequel in the first place. Homer’s original poem tells a complete story on its own, and Nolan’s adaptation was always going to close the book rather than crack open a franchise.

That said, there is still a reason to stick around once the credits actually begin. The film closes with an original song titled ‘When I’m Home,’ marking the first time Nolan has taken a co-writing credit on a track for one of his movies. It is a small but notable departure for a filmmaker who rarely puts his name on anything outside the screenplay and director’s chair.
The credits also include a dedication plate honoring David Keighley, a longtime IMAX executive who spent 37 years with the company and was closely associated with helping shape the format Nolan has used throughout his career. The tribute is described in the film’s own credits as recognizing him as a long-time champion of IMAX.
Adding to the pre-release buzz, a partial version of the end credits leaked online and quickly spread across social media before being taken down, drawing attention because Travis Scott, who plays a bard in the film, appeared to be listed near the top of the cast roll despite the film’s enormous ensemble of established stars.
Do you prefer movies like The Odyssey that skip post-credit scenes?
That ensemble includes Matt Damon leading as Odysseus, alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, and Elliot Page, among many others. With reviews already praising the film’s IMAX cinematography and practical scale, ‘The Odyssey’ looks primed to be one of the defining theatrical experiences of the summer, post-credit scene or not.
