‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Keeps Rewriting the Record Books, One Weekday at a Time

Blockbuster openings tend to grab all the headlines, but the real test of a movie’s staying power often shows up in the days that follow, when the hype has settled and audiences are choosing to show up on their own terms. Weekday performance rarely makes for flashy trailers, yet it tells a more honest story about whether a film has genuinely connected.

That’s exactly the story unfolding around ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ as it continues its historic theatrical run. The film had already dismantled the domestic opening weekend record before the weekend was even over, and the box office milestones haven’t stopped piling up since.

The latest addition to that growing list arrived when the film posted the biggest Tuesday of all time at the domestic box office, pulling in $42 million. That figure surpasses the previous record holder, Sony and Marvel’s own ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ which earned $39.2 million on its opening Tuesday back in July 2019.

The web-slinger’s weekday dominance didn’t stop there. Just a day earlier, the film had already claimed the record for biggest Monday ever with $47 million, comfortably outpacing the previous benchmark set by ‘Black Panther’s’ 2018 Presidents Day haul of $40.15 million and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’ $40.1 million from December 2015.

Those weekday hauls have pushed the film’s cumulative domestic total into rarefied territory. As of Tuesday, the running five-day domestic total for ‘Brand New Day’ sat at $449 million, making it the second-highest grossing release in the U.S. so far in 2026, trailing only ‘Toy Story 5’s $464.6 million.

Sony’s Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film is closing that gap fast, and industry watchers now expect it to soon overtake ‘Toy Story 5’ for the top spot domestically this year. That trajectory places ‘Brand New Day’ among an elite handful of releases capable of dominating both weekend and weekday box office simultaneously.

The film’s international performance has kept pace with its domestic records. ‘Brand New Day’ has already crossed $1.1 billion worldwide, officially making it the highest-grossing movie of the year to date across the globe.

That milestone comes on the heels of the film’s staggering opening weekend, when it launched with a confirmed $360 million domestically and $572 million across 66 international markets, for a combined global debut of $932 million. Only ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ which opened to $1.22 billion worldwide in 2019, has ever posted a bigger global launch.

With this kind of weekday momentum behind it, industry trackers are now eyeing the film’s second weekend as another potential record-breaker. Should the film hold at a relatively modest 60% decline, projections suggest a second weekend haul around $144 million, which would rank as the third-best sophomore frame in box office history, behind only ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ at $149.2 million and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at $147.3 million.

For a film already being talked about in the same breath as the biggest openings of all time, breaking Tuesday and Monday records feels less like a surprise and more like confirmation that ‘Brand New Day’ has become a genuine cultural moment rather than just a strong opening weekend.
