Richard Madden Lands New Thriller Series Coming to Prime Video and Paramount+
Richard Madden is heading back to the thriller world with a new high-stakes series that will bring together Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+. According to Variety, the actor will lead the upcoming show currently titled “Trauma,” a tense story set inside a London hospital during a deadly hostage situation.
The series will follow Jim Marchant, played by Madden, a former Royal Marines medic who now works as an emergency room doctor. When terrorists take control of a busy London hospital and capture the Prime Minister while he is undergoing surgery, Marchant is forced into a fight to save the people trapped inside.
As the situation grows more dangerous, Marchant must move through different floors of the hospital, facing new threats at every turn. The story is expected to combine the pressure of a medical emergency drama with the intensity of a survival thriller.
“Trauma” will have a unique international release strategy. Prime Video will handle the series in the United Kingdom and Ireland, while Paramount+ will release it in other territories around the world. The project was developed through a partnership between Lionsgate Television and 42 Management & Production, with both companies helping bring the series together.
The show was created by Geoff Bussetil, known for his work on projects including “Slow Horses,” “Scoop,” and “Skins.” Bussetil will also write the series, while Daniel Syrkin, who directed “Tehran” and “MobLand,” will direct and serve as an executive producer.
Madden will not only star in the series but will also take on an executive producer role. Other executive producers include Ben Pugh and Ben Cavey from 42, with Chrissy Skinns producing and Chris Kennedy serving as co-producer.
Paramount+’s head of originals Jane Wiseman praised the project, saying, “‘Trauma’ is exactly the kind of bold, global and propulsive storytelling we want Paramount+ audiences to experience. Geoff Bussetil has crafted a nail-biting thriller that puts our audience inside one impossible night with a hero played by the incredibly talented Richard Madden.”
42’s Ben Cavey also highlighted the combination of the show’s concept and Madden’s role, describing it as a thriller that blends the fast pace of an emergency room with the tension of a siege story. He added that Madden was the perfect choice to play a complicated hero who must rely on both his medical skills and military background.
The series adds another thriller role to Madden’s growing list of intense performances. The actor became widely known for playing Robb Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and later earned a Golden Globe Award for his performance in the BBC One and Netflix series “Bodyguard.” He has also starred in Amazon’s “Citadel,” Marvel’s “Eternals,” Disney’s “Cinderella,” “Rocketman,” and “1917.”
With “Trauma,” Madden returns to the kind of action-heavy role that helped make him a major television star. The series is expected to focus on one dangerous night where every decision could mean life or death, putting Madden’s character at the center of a battle for survival.
No release date has been announced yet, but with its international backing and experienced creative team, “Trauma” is shaping up to be one of the more ambitious thriller projects coming to streaming.
