‘Insidious: Out of the Further’ Crosses $100 Million and Makes History for Blumhouse
Horror franchises rarely stay quiet at the box office for long, but few have proven as consistently bankable as the ‘Insidious‘ series. What started as a low-budget scare-fest back in 2011 has evolved into one of Blumhouse’s most reliable moneymakers, and the franchise’s latest chapter has once again delivered exactly the kind of return the studio has come to expect.
That chapter is ‘Insidious: Out of the Further,’ the sixth installment in the franchise, following Gemma, a young mother who discovers she can travel into the Further, the purgatorial realm at the center of the series, and unwittingly bring its demons back into the real world. Directed by Jacob Chase, the film opened domestically on August 21 against a modest $18 million production budget, immediately positioning it for a strong return regardless of how it stacked up against summer’s bigger blockbusters.
That return has now officially arrived. ‘Out of the Further’ has crossed $100 million worldwide, making it 2026’s fastest August release to reach that milestone and continuing the franchise’s unbroken streak of box office success.
That achievement also marks a notable first for Blumhouse. The milestone makes 2026 the first year the studio has landed three separate $100 million-plus releases, joining ‘Obsession,’ made with Focus Features, and ‘Backrooms,’ produced through Atomic Monster, alongside ‘Insidious’ itself, which was distributed with Sony’s Screen Gems label.
That trio of hits has helped push Blumhouse Atomic Monster’s combined 2026 output past $1 billion at the global box office, marking only the second time the merged labels have crossed that threshold since their 2024 combination. Including ‘Lee Cronin’s The Mummy,’ another of the studio’s 2026 releases, the four films were produced on a combined budget of roughly $50.75 million, translating to a return of approximately 20 times that cost within just the first eight months of the year.
‘Out of the Further’s’ opening weekend numbers came in below 2023’s ‘Insidious: The Red Door,’ which debuted to $33 million domestically, with the newest installment settling for a $25.3 million domestic start and $60.3 million globally. Even so, the franchise’s track record made a strong eventual total all but guaranteed, given that every prior ‘Insidious’ film has cleared $100 million worldwide regardless of its opening weekend performance.

The film also holds the distinction of carrying the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience score of any entry in the franchise at 71 percent, suggesting the sixth installment has resonated with fans even as it opened opposite ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s’ historic run. Sony notably landed both the first and second highest-grossing domestic titles that particular weekend, a rare feat the studio hadn’t managed at any other point over the previous two years.
With six films now collectively earning more than $800 million worldwide against combined budgets totaling around $60 million, ‘Insidious’ remains one of horror’s most dependable franchises, and this latest success all but guarantees Blumhouse will keep returning to the Further for future installments.
