Kevin Feige Teases a Shocking ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Ending – “You’ll Be Incredibly Surprised”

Marvel Studios has spent the better part of this year rebuilding momentum after a rocky stretch for the MCU, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has been positioned as the movie meant to prove the franchise still has its old magic. Between the Russo brothers’ return to the director’s chair and a sprawling cast pulling heroes in from across Marvel’s cinematic history, expectations for the film have only kept climbing since the first trailer dropped.

That pressure gets even heavier once you consider what ‘Doomsday’ is actually supposed to do. It isn’t just another team-up movie, it’s the first half of a two-part finale that has to end on a cliffhanger strong enough to carry an entire year of anticipation before ‘Secret Wars’ arrives.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed exactly that challenge at Comic-Con, and his comments are already generating plenty of buzz online. Asked about how the film wraps up, Feige kept things vague but couldn’t resist teasing just how big the moment is going to be. “I don’t want to spoil anything, but I think fans will be incredibly satisfied and yet incredibly surprised of where it’s headed, and then we’ll have a hard time waiting a year for ‘Secret Wars’,” Feige said.

It’s the kind of statement that walks a careful line, offering just enough to fuel speculation without giving away a single plot detail. Feige clearly wants fans hyped for the ending, but he’s also not about to hand out spoilers this close to release, leaving the specifics entirely up to the imagination for now.

Comparisons to Marvel’s last major cliffhanger are already inevitable. ‘Doomsday’ is following in the footsteps of ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ which ended on the gut-punch of half the universe disappearing in the Thanos snap, a moment that instantly became one of the most talked-about endings in blockbuster history.
