Sandra Bullock And Nicole Kidman Reunite In Full Witchy Glamour For ‘Practical Magic 2’ Premiere

Nearly three decades after they first cast a spell over audiences as the Owens sisters, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are once again proving that some on-screen partnerships only get better with time. The two Oscar winners have spent the past several weeks crisscrossing the globe to promote their long-awaited reunion, and fans have been eating up every red carpet appearance along the way.

That promotional tour has already taken them through London, where ‘Practical Magic 2‘ held its European premiere on August 26 at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. It also marked a rare public outing for co-star Stockard Channing, who returned to a red carpet for the first time in two years to reprise her role as Aunt Franny.

Now the spotlight has shifted stateside, with Bullock and Kidman lighting up the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Practical Magic 2’ on August 31 at the Directors Village. Photos from the event show the longtime friends posing together once again as Sally and Gillian Owens, with Kidman in a sheer lace gown and choker and Bullock opting for a sharp black-and-white ensemble that leaned into old Hollywood glamour.

The Los Angeles premiere brought out much of the film’s ensemble cast, including director Susanne Bier alongside co-stars Joey King, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod. King and Williams play key roles in the sequel, with Williams stepping into the part of Sandra Bullock’s on-screen daughter, Antonia Owens.

The red carpet also drew a wider circle of celebrity guests, including Josh Holloway, along with reality television personalities Brooks Nader, Grace Ann Nader, Cely Vásquez of ‘Love Island USA,’ and Katie Maloney from ‘Vanderpump Rules.’ The turnout underscored just how much anticipation has built around the sequel to the original 1998 cult classic.

‘Practical Magic 2’ picks up the story of witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who were raised by their eccentric aunts after a family curse claimed their parents. The original film, based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel, was directed by Griffin Dunne and struggled at the box office upon release, only to grow into a beloved favorite in the years since.

This time around, Susanne Bier takes over directing duties, working from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, who also co-wrote the first film. Plot details for the sequel have largely been kept under wraps, though it’s reportedly drawing inspiration from a later book in Hoffman’s expanded ‘Practical Magic’ series rather than serving as a direct continuation.

Beyond the main cast, the sequel also brings back Dianne Wiest as Aunt Jet, joining Channing’s Aunt Franny to round out the Owens family’s magical elder generation. Their return has been one of the more anticipated elements of the film for longtime fans of the original.

Part of the fun of the press tour has been watching the cast lean into nostalgia, with Williams and King reportedly drawing style inspiration from Bullock and Kidman’s own late-’90s red carpet looks for the original ‘Practical Magic.’ That callback has extended into the film’s costuming as well, which pulls heavily from the era’s fashion sensibilities.

With the European and Los Angeles premieres now behind them, all eyes turn to the film’s theatrical debut. ‘Practical Magic 2’ is set to hit theaters on September 18, 2026, arriving nearly 28 years after the original first cast its spell on audiences.

Given the film’s rocky critical reception back in 1998 and its subsequent rise to cult status, expectations for the sequel are running high among longtime fans. Whether ‘Practical Magic 2’ can recapture that same magic, or conjure something entirely new, will become clear soon enough.
