Adam Sandler and Salma Hayek Ride Out a Rainstorm in Neon Ponchos While Filming ‘Grown Ups 3′
New Jersey has once again become Adam Sandler’s unofficial second home base for Netflix productions, following a familiar pattern that’s played out across his recent projects in the Garden State. Fans have grown accustomed to spotting the comedian popping up at local restaurants, high schools, and small-town streets whenever a new Sandler shoot rolls into town.
That trend has continued in a big way this summer, with production on ‘Grown Ups 3′ sweeping through multiple New Jersey towns over the past several weeks. The reunion comedy has drawn plenty of attention as Sandler brings the original cast back together for the first time in over a decade.
The latest stop on that tour landed the cast at Keansburg Amusement Park, where new photos show Sandler and co-star Salma Hayek Pinault filming scenes together while bundled up in bright orange ponchos. The pair appeared to be riding out a rainy shoot day on one of the park’s water-adjacent attractions, with the playful, soaked-through images quickly making the rounds online.
The Keansburg shoot had been anticipated for weeks, with reports indicating the production planned to film in the borough around the Labor Day weekend timeframe. That timeline lines up with the newly surfaced photos, capping off a busy month of New Jersey filming that’s taken the cast and crew through towns including Woodbridge, Morristown, and Madison.
Hayek Pinault’s presence on set continues her longstanding run in the franchise, having played Roxanne Chase-Feder since the original 2010 film. Her character’s return alongside Sandler’s Lenny Feder helps anchor the reunion, along with the rest of the returning ensemble that’s made this threequel one of the most talked-about comedy sequels in recent memory.
‘Grown Ups 3’ brings back nearly the entire original lineup, including Kevin James as Eric Lamonsoff, Chris Rock as Kurt McKenzie, and David Spade as Marcus Higgins. Rob Schneider also returns as Rob Hilliard, marking a notable comeback for the actor since he sat out 2013’s ‘Grown Ups 2’ entirely.
Beyond the core group, the film brings back Maya Rudolph as Deanne McKenzie and Maria Bello as Sally Lamonsoff, alongside supporting players Shaquille O’Neal, Nick Swardson, Colin Quinn, and Tim Meadows. Sandler’s real-life wife, Jackie Sandler, and daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler are also part of the returning cast, continuing a tradition of keeping the film very much a family affair.
New additions to the franchise include Deon Cole, Bailee Madison, and Julie Bowen, though specific character details for their roles haven’t been revealed yet. According to the film’s plot, the story reportedly follows the aging friend group as they travel to Europe to scatter the ashes of a close friend, a premise that will take production well beyond New Jersey and into locations including Boston, Italy, and France.
Sandler co-wrote the script alongside longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy, who also worked on ‘Grown Ups 2.’ Kyle Newacheck, who most recently directed Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2,’ is helming the project behind the camera.
With production expected to continue through October, fans can likely expect plenty more candid set photos as the cast makes its way through the rest of the shoot. For now, the sight of Sandler and Hayek Pinault braving the elements in matching ponchos offers a lighthearted glimpse into what’s shaping up to be a genuinely full-circle reunion more than a decade in the making.
