‘Grown Ups 3’ Star Jake Goldberg Confirms His Return, and His Life Off-Screen Has Changed Completely
Nostalgia sequels rarely feel as genuinely reunion-driven as what Adam Sandler and Netflix are cooking up with the third installment of one of his most enduring comedy franchises. More than a decade after the last film hit theaters, the entire original gang, along with the kids who grew up alongside them onscreen, is heading back together for one more adventure.
That reunion officially got underway earlier this month, when Netflix confirmed on August 6 that production had begun in New Jersey on ‘Grown Ups 3,’ bringing back Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello and Salma Hayek Pinault as the franchise’s core leads. Rob Schneider’s return marks the first time all five original stars have worked together since the 2010 original, having sat out the second film entirely due to scheduling conflicts.
Among the returning cast confirmed for the threequel is Jake Goldberg, who has now shared the news of his comeback directly with fans, holding up a handwritten sign reading “We back for Grown Ups 3.” Goldberg has played Greg Feder, the son of Sandler’s character Lenny, since the very first film back in 2010, reprising the role again in 2013’s ‘Grown Ups 2.’
His return continues a pattern of the sequel bringing back nearly the entire original ensemble of child actors rather than recasting them, a fitting choice given the film’s premise centers on those same kids now being fully grown. Alexys Nycole Sanchez, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Ada-Nicole Sanger, Morgan Gingerich, Kaleo Elam, Nadji Jeter and Kamil McFadden are also confirmed to reprise their childhood roles alongside Goldberg.
Goldberg’s return marks a notable full-circle moment given how far removed he’s been from acting in recent years. Since his last appearance in the franchise more than a decade ago, he stepped away from Hollywood entirely, attending the University of Colorado Boulder before gradually building a sizable online following centered around an entirely different passion: food content creation, where he’s now recognized by hundreds of thousands of followers.
According to the official Netflix logline, the new film follows the original gang once their kids have finally grown up and moved out, freeing them to embark on what’s being billed as “the ultimate adventure.” Julie Bowen, Deon Cole and Bailee Madison round out the cast as newcomers to the franchise, joining Happy Madison regulars like Steve Buscemi, Shaquille O’Neal, Colin Quinn, Tim Meadows, Cheri Oteri, Ellen Cleghorne and Nick Swardson, all of whom are also returning.
Sandler co-wrote the film alongside longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy, with Kyle Newacheck directing the threequel, which marks the franchise’s official move from Sony Pictures to Netflix following an announcement earlier this year. With production now underway and the full ensemble reassembled, fans are getting their first real glimpse of just how many familiar faces will be making the jump to streaming together.
