Robert Pattinson Admits Filming ‘The Batman: Part II’ Is Kicking His Ass, but in the Best Way Possible

Robert Pattinson has built quite the reputation over the past few years as one of Hollywood’s most relentlessly booked actors, jumping from one demanding project directly into the next with barely a moment to catch his breath. Between blockbuster epics and prestige dramas, the actor has made it clear that slowing down simply isn’t part of his current plan.

That grueling schedule has now caught up with him in a very physical way, as production on Matt Reeves’ long-awaited Batman sequel has officially gotten underway in London. Fans have spent years anticipating this follow-up, and Pattinson himself has previously joked about aging into the role between the first film and its sequel.

Now that filming is actually in full swing, Pattinson is opening up about just how demanding the shoot has become. Speaking with GQ, the actor admitted the physicality of the role is hitting differently this time around. “I’m definitely feeling my age when fighting a lot,” Pattinson told the outlet. “I’m literally like, ‘Goddamn, this is significantly harder than it used to be.’ But it’s really fun. And I think the movie’s going to be pretty great. It’s got a really, really fun cast, but it’s a marathon.”

That marathon comparison tracks with everything known about the production so far. ‘The Batman: Part II’ entered production earlier this year following a lengthy pre-production process, with the script from Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin finally completed after years of anticipated development.

Pattinson isn’t alone in reprising his role for the sequel. Colin Farrell returns as Oz Cobb, better known as the Penguin, alongside Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Jim Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, keeping much of the original film’s emotional core intact.

The sequel has also brought in a wave of high-profile new additions, with Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson joining the cast in previously undisclosed roles, alongside Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch. Notably, Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman and Paul Dano’s Riddler are not expected to return for this chapter, marking a shift away from some of the first film’s central antagonist dynamics.

The story picks up during the winter following Gotham City’s devastating flood, with Bruce Wayne continuing to investigate the corruption and division plaguing the city. Given the film’s noir-influenced tone in its predecessor, expectations remain high that this sequel will lean even further into that atmospheric, detective-driven style that helped define Reeves’ take on the character.

Pattinson’s comments about the shoot’s physical toll come amid what’s already been an exceptionally packed year for the actor, following major roles in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three.’ Balancing that workload with the demands of a role as physically intensive as Batman speaks to just how committed Pattinson remains to getting this particular sequel right.

With ‘The Batman: Part II’ currently slated for a February 18, 2028 release, fans still have a considerable wait ahead. Based on Pattinson’s latest comments, though, it sounds like the finished product may well be worth the exhausting journey it’s taking to make it.
