A First Look at ‘Obsession’s’ Nikki Just Confirmed She’s Roaming Halloween Horror Nights, and Fans Are Already Spotting Her

Halloween Horror Nights has built its reputation on transforming beloved horror properties into full-scale haunted houses, but this year’s most talked-about addition isn’t getting a maze at all. Universal Studios Hollywood has instead chosen to let one of 2026’s breakout horror characters loose on the streets themselves, turning an entire theme park into her hunting ground.

That character is Nikki, the tragic and terrifying centerpiece of ‘Obsession,’ the psychological horror film that became one of the year’s biggest surprise hits. Rather than confining her to a single attraction, Universal decided the character deserved a format that matched her unsettling, unpredictable nature within the movie itself.

Fans are now getting their first real glimpses of that decision paying off, with a video capturing Nikki as a roaming character stalking the streets of Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood, blood streaked across her face and dressed in the same tattered black dress she wears at the film’s chilling conclusion. The clip quickly spread among horror fans eager to see how the character would translate from screen to scare zone.

Halloween Horror Nights creative director John Murdy explained the decision behind Nikki’s format during a panel at MidsummerScream in early August, describing the experience as something closer to a real-life scavenger hunt than a traditional walkthrough attraction. He said Nikki is out there somewhere, comparing the search for her to needing a “Where’s Waldo?” mentality, since she could turn up anywhere in the park on a given night.

Rather than sticking to one fixed location, Nikki wanders the park each event night, echoing the approach Universal took with Art the Clown during last year’s ‘Terrifier’ collaboration. Guests are encouraged to check the Halloween Horror Nights Instagram Stories for a nightly secret phrase, and those lucky enough to track Nikki down and recite it to her may receive a collectible reward, though Murdy noted only a limited number will be available before they run out.

Universal also made a deliberate choice about which version of Nikki to bring to life, opting for her appearance from the very end of the film. In the movie, Nikki’s friend uses a supernatural artifact called the One Wish Willow to force her into an obsessive, uncontrollable love for him, and the character’s final form, drenched in blood, wearing her friend’s stolen dress, and covered in his tattoos, is the exact look Universal chose to recreate for the attraction.

Nikki’s inclusion hasn’t been entirely without controversy among fans. Because her transformation in the film isn’t something she chooses for herself, some viewers have pointed out the discomfort of turning a character whose autonomy is stripped away by a curse into a wandering scare actor meant to frighten guests for entertainment.

That tension hasn’t stopped Universal from leaning into the character fully, with actress Inde Navarrette having previously expressed interest in returning to play Nikki if the opportunity ever arose. With Halloween Horror Nights running select nights through November 1 across both the Hollywood and Orlando locations, fans hoping to encounter Nikki for themselves will need to stay alert, because as Murdy put it, she might just be looking for her next obsession.
