Check Out the First Look at DC’s New Series, Here’s Everything We Know

James Gunn’s rebuilt DC Universe has leaned heavily into animation as a way to expand its roster of heroes without waiting on blockbuster film budgets, using HBO Max as a proving ground for younger, scrappier corners of the DC mythos. That strategy has already paid off with hits like ‘My Adventures with Superman’, and the studio has been steadily teasing an even bigger animated slate to follow.

Among the most intriguing entries in that lineup is a project built around a fresh generation of heroes rather than the usual household names, promising a school-set take on the DCU that feels distinct from anything currently airing. Fans have had to piece together details slowly, mostly through convention teasers and scattered studio reveals.

Now, animation studio Digital eMation has quietly offered fans their clearest look yet at ‘DC Super Powers‘, posting the first image from the series directly to its own studio website. The image shows off character designs with a bright, kinetic energy that suggests the show is aiming for a tone closer to ‘Teen Titans Go!’ than a more somber, cinematic DCU entry.

‘DC Super Powers’ is set at the Alliance School for Heroes, following a group of young student versions of classic DC characters as they train to become the next generation of crimefighters under the guidance of principal Martian Manhunter. The roster teased so far includes younger takes on Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern, and Terra, giving the series plenty of room to build out a sprawling ensemble cast.

DC first teased the project alongside several other animated shows during a promotional reveal, showcasing early character art for a trio of these young heroes: Lightning, Plastic Man, and a female iteration of Flash. A new design for Krypto the Super-Dog also appeared during that same reveal, though that iteration is reportedly tied to a separate, still-untitled Krypto series rather than ‘DC Super Powers’ itself.

The series currently carries a listed status of “In Development” on HBO Max’s animation slate, meaning specific release timing and additional casting details have yet to be confirmed. Digital eMation, the studio behind this newly surfaced image, is handling animation duties on the project.

This new footage arrives as part of a much larger wave of animated content coming out of DC Studios. The studio has also confirmed a ‘Mister Miracle’ series set within the world of the New Gods, centering on escape artist Scott Free and introducing the DCU’s live-action-adjacent take on Darkseid for the first time in animated form.

That expanding slate reflects just how central animation has become to Gunn and Peter Safran’s vision for the rebuilt DC Universe, treating it as a genuine storytelling pillar rather than a side project for younger audiences. With shows like ‘My Adventures with Superman’ already proving there’s an appetite for this kind of stylized, character-driven format, ‘DC Super Powers’ has a clear lane to carve out its own audience.

For now, fans will have to make do with this single image while Digital eMation and HBO Max continue working through the show’s development pipeline. Given how quickly other DCU animated projects have moved from teaser to premiere, more concrete details could realistically surface within the coming months.
