Sebastian Stan’s Bald New Photos Reignite ‘The Batman: Part II’ Villain Debate

Casting mysteries have become something of a signature move for Matt Reeves’ Batman universe, with the director keeping plot details locked down tighter than Gotham City’s evidence room. Ever since Sebastian Stan’s involvement in ‘The Batman: Part II’ was first confirmed, fans have been left piecing together clues from set photos, cryptic interviews, and industry rumors rather than any official character breakdown.

That guessing game intensified back in the summer when Stan showed up with a dramatically different look, trading his signature shoulder-length hair for a completely shaved head. The shift immediately sent Batman fans into overdrive, especially since it seemed to contradict earlier reports about which iconic villain he’d actually be playing.

Now those same theories have resurfaced with a fresh batch of photos showing Stan sporting the bald look once again, this time in a series of more polished, off-set images rather than a paparazzi catch. The renewed attention has reignited the long-running debate over whether Stan is actually playing Harvey Dent, the future Two-Face, or DC’s far more brutal supervillain Victor Zsasz.

Stan’s casting was initially reported as Harvey Dent, Gotham’s district attorney whose eventual disfigurement transforms him into the coin-flipping villain Two-Face. That version of the story picked up steam after Stan discussed the role during press for his film ‘Fjord’ at Cannes, though a widely circulated quote suggesting he explicitly confirmed playing Dent was later corrected after being misattributed in translation.

Complicating things further, industry insider Jeff Sneider reported back in June that Stan isn’t playing Dent at all, claiming instead that the role had gone to ‘Eternals’ actor Brian Tyree Henry, with Stan set to portray Victor Zsasz. Zsasz, created by Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle for 1992’s ‘Batman: Shadow of the Bat’ #1, is known in the comics for his shaved head and his practice of carving a tally mark into his own skin for every victim he claims.

Stan’s clean-shaven, bald appearance lines up far more naturally with Zsasz’s classic comic book look than it does with Dent, who traditionally keeps a full head of hair even after his transformation into Two-Face. That visual mismatch has been central to why so many fans have shifted their theories away from Dent and toward the far more unsettling serial killer.

While Stan hasn’t confirmed which character he’s playing, he has offered some insight into his overall approach to the role. Discussing how he tackles complex characters regardless of whether they’re based on real people or fiction, he explained that you always have to get to the heart of the truth, a philosophy he shared.

He went on to describe the importance of understanding what shapes a character’s worldview, from their family background to the specific time and place they grew up in, treating that research process with the same seriousness whether the role is grounded in reality or entirely fictional. It’s a comment that fits either potential character, offering fans little in the way of a definitive answer.

Zsasz has appeared in live-action Batman media before, with Tim Booth portraying the character in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Batman Begins’ and Anthony Carrigan taking on the role for DC’s ‘Gotham’ television series. Given how differently Reeves reimagined the Riddler for the first ‘Batman’ film, there’s plenty of reason to think Zsasz could receive a similarly grounded, unsettling makeover if the rumors hold true.

With ‘The Batman: Part II’ still under wraps and Warner Bros. maintaining its usual silence on casting specifics, fans are left once again relying on hairstyles and cryptic quotes to fill in the blanks. Until Reeves or the studio actually confirms the character breakdown, Stan’s real role in Gotham’s next chapter remains very much an open question.
